“I’m gonna tell you right now, I’m gonna put them out of business,” he told guest Mary Katharine Ham. “And any media person who supports them, I’m gonna put them on this program and put a picture of them on the air.”
“But do political movements and political rhetoric cause murder?” Ham countered. “‘Cause if you go down that road, are you allowed to criticize the police in public? Are you allowed to criticize the state?”
“You can criticize the police,” O’Reilly said. “If you call for their demise, that’s hatred."
That's a very interesting sentiment coming from someone on a network that once featured a person who told people who had committed violence against Democratic Congress persons "
Don't Retreat, Reload".
Video and a short trip though the way-back Machine to 2010 over the flip.
I myself think the chant "Pigs in a Blanket, Fry 'em like Bacon" is not terribly useful, clever and fairly vague opening the movement up to criticism like this, although it could be also argued that "Fried" in this context means tried and convicted of murder as much as it means anything else. In fact, at least one Black Lives Matter spokesman made exactly that point repeatedly as he was being grilled on CNN.
In the O'Reilly video below Juan Williams sort of tries to stick for Black Lives Matter claiming their chant isn't, in and of itself, a call for wanton violence against Police. He's does unfortunately claim it doesn't matter because...
Williams: They don't have an agenda.
Except that as of last week, they do have a
10 Point Plan of Action and Policy Suggestions addressing the problem of biased policing. Nothing in there suggests taking violent action against police. It's simply not on the agenda.
O'Reilly: I want to repeat this statistic for all those who might wish to sympathise with Black Lives Matter, less than 0.1 percent of all arrests end with someone being killed
That may well be true, but so far this year that's ended up
being 776 people contrasted with 312 people Murdered in Chicago, 210 Murdered in Baltimore and a grand total of just 16 Officers who've been violently killed in the line of duty this year. By all accounts the number of people
Killed by Police is a larger issue.
Although people like O'Reilly claim that there is no such thing as a racial bias in our police forces, this report from the Guardian seems to indicate something else entirely.
Blacks People Killed by Police are Twice As Likely to Be Unarmed
Black Americans are more than twice as likely to be unarmed when killed during encounters with police as white people, according to a Guardian investigation which found 102 of 464 people killed so far this year in incidents with law enforcement officers were not carrying weapons.
An analysis of public records, local news reports and Guardian reporting found that 32% of black people killed by police in 2015 were unarmed, as were 25% of Hispanic and Latino people, compared with 15% of white people killed.
^That!^ That right there is the smoking gun that many people have long suspected
- and others like O'Reilly have refused to admit - that clearly shows a law enforcement bias to reflexively
kill black people even when they present no credible threat. That's the reason it doesn't make sense to say "All Lives Matter" because it's quite clear that to Law Enforcement
certain lives don't matter to them. Black Lives.
While it is true that overall American police have killed more white people than black, technically, it's still a percentage that is completely out of whack with the population.
The Guardian’s statistics include deaths after the police use of a Taser, deaths caused by police vehicles and deaths following altercations in police custody, as well as those killed when officers open fire. They reveal that 29% of those killed by police, or 135 people, were black. Sixty-seven, or 14%, were Hispanic/Latino, and 234, or 50%, were white. In total, 102 people who died during encounters with law enforcement in 2015 were unarmed.
The next argument we usually hear is that black people are being killed by police at a higher rate - even when they're unarmed - because of the "
High Rate of Violent Black Crime" except that the FBI Crime Stats
don't really confirm that claim.
In 2012, 69.3 percent of all individuals arrested were white, 28.1 percent were black, and 2.6 percent were of other races.
Of all juveniles (persons under the age of 18) arrested in 2012, 65.2 percent were white, 32.2 percent were black, and 2.5 percent were of other races.
Of all adults arrested in 2012, 69.7 were white, 27.6 percent were black, and 2.7 percent were of other races.
White individuals were arrested more often for violent crimes than individuals of any other race, accounting for 58.7 percent of those arrests.
You have to ignore a lot of facts and stats to justify the argument that Black People are somehow more dangerous than anyone else - and are therefore more deserving of death at the hands of police
even when they're unarmed - particularly when additional Bureau of Justice Data indicates that they get arrested twice as often as white people
for the exact same offense
This table shows that the percentage of Blacks that are arrested during traffic stops is twice (4.7% to 2.4%) as high as White Drivers. And similarly their likelyhood of being ticketed is greater (58% to 53%) - although Latinos top them both at 62% - and their likelyhood of receiving a written warning (14.8% to 17.7%) or a verbal warning (6.0% to 11.2%) are consistently lower.
Even though Black people are arrested twice as frequently than whites for the crimes they actually commit, the number of white people arrested is far, far greater. What we have to face is that the reason our jails are filled with people of color is because of a compounded level of bias at all levels, black people not only tend to get stopped more, ticketed more, and arrested more, they also get
20% longer sentences as well.
It all adds up.
And then police use the resulting high incarceration rates as an excuse to continue all the above practices like a negative feedback loop.
Still as we've seen on CNN, O'Reilly like the rest of Fox has been making the disgusting claim that the "Pigs in a Blanket, Fry Like Bacon" is either an inspiration or an after the fact endorsement of violence against police such as the shooting of a Texas Deputy last week.
There is no evidence, none, that this shooting had anything to do with that demonstation, yet still the right-wing are now openly arguing that Black Lives Matter is a "Hate Group".
But that's a point of view I find quite ironic considering what happened after various Fox News Hosts ranted incessantly about the dangers of "Liberals" and President Obama, particularly Sarah Palin after she post the following map on her Facebook page.
Sarah Palin Target Map (Via Huffpo)
Do you see the forth name on the left? Yes, that's right - that's a Gun-Sight on the Offices of
Rep. Gabby Giffords. Even though
no one in the media actually claimed Palin was ultimately an inspiration for the Gifford's shooting, at the time she called the mere suggestion that what she posted might have inspired that shooting as "Political Finger pointing" and "
Blood Libel".
Yet whose pointing fingers now?
But that wasn't all, not hardly. Because ultimately 11 out of 20 of the Offices on her list were threatened or attacked, including Gifford's in an incident completely separate from the later shooting.
Vic Snyder (retired, Arkansas-2) received a death threat in the mail in March 2010.
Ann Kirkpatrick (Arizona-1) - her office was attacked in March 2010.
Harry Mitchell (Arizona-5) received several death threats in March 2010.
Betsy Markey (Colorado-4) received several death threats in March 2010.
Suzanne Kosmas (Florida-24) was threatened in March 2010.
Baron Hill (Indiana-9) received several telephone threats in March 2010.
Earl Pomeroy (North Dakota-AL) was threatened in March 2010.
John Boccieri (Ohio-16) received numerous telephone death threats in March 2010.
Kathy Dahlkemper (Pennsylvania-3) was threatened by mail in March 2010.
Tom Perriello (Virginia-5) was threatened in March 2010, including the infamous incident when the gas line was cut at his brother's house; the attacker erroneously thought it was Rep Perriello's house.
Gabrielle Giffords (D-Arizona) had the front window of her office shot out in March.
And there was more violence. Much More, that clearly could have come from Tea Party inspiration.
A Moveon.org activist was viciously curb stomped by a Rand Paul campaign volunteer.
A Pheonix Man was indicted for threatening to Kill Rep Raul Grijalva over his opposition to SB1070.
Charles Alan Wilson was arrested for threatening to Kill Senator Patty Murray in Washington State.
Members of the Right-Wing Hutaree Militia were arrested an charged for plotting to shoot, ambush and bomb police in order to begin an anti-Government "Civil War".
A man was arrested for phoning threats against Nancy Pelosi.
Death Threats were issued against Rep Bart Stupak for his support of Health Care Reform.
Pictures of a Noose were Faxed Rep. James Clyburn because of his HCR support.
A Brick was thrown through the window of the Democratic Headquaters in Rochester NY.
Another brick was thrown at Rep Louis Slaughter's office, and a phone message threatening a "Sniper'.
A envelope of White Powder was mailed to Rep. Anthony Weiners Office with a threatening note about Health Care.
Packets of White Powder were also sent to Keith Olbermann, David Letterman, Jon Stewart and Speaker Pelosi by Free Republic Poster, Ann Coulter & Michelle Malkin acolyte Chad Costanza.
Rep Steve Dreihaus received death threats and had his home address published by a right-wing blogger.
Bricks were thrown through the window of Wichita Country Democratic Office after a "Nationwide Call to vandalize Democratic Offices" was made by the former head of the Alabama Constitutional Militia.
Selfstyled "Christian bin Laden" and Army of God member Justin Moose threatened to Bomb Women's Health Clinics
Arson was committed at The Murfeeboro Tennesee Mosque constuction site.
Scott Reoder shot and killed Dr. George Tiller.
Michael Enright slashed a cab drivers throat for being Muslim.
Joe Stack flew a plane into the Austin IRS Building
James Cummings attempted to build a Radiological Dirty Bomb in Maine to attack President Obama.
There was also the case of James David Adkisson who had a very
interesting inspiration.
"This was a symbolic killing. Who I wanted to kill was every Democrat in the Senate & House, the 100 people in Bernard Goldberg's book. I'd like to kill everyone in the mainstream media. But I know those people were inaccessible to me. I couldn't get to the generals & high ranking officers of the Marxist movement so I went after the foot soldiers, the chickenshit liberals that vote in these traitorous people. Someone had to get the ball rolling. I volunteered. I hope others do the same. It's the only way we can rid America of this cancerous pestilence."
"I thought I'd do something good for this Country Kill Democrats til the cops kill me....Liberals are a pest like termites. Millions of them Each little bite contributes to the downfall of this great nation. The only way we can rid ourselves of this evil is to kill them in the streets. Kill them where they gather. I'd like to encourage other like minded people to do what I've done. If life aint worth living anymore don't just kill yourself. do something for your Country before you go. Go Kill Liberals.
Speaking of being "Anti-Cop" there was also the case of Byron Williams.
Williams was arrested after a shootout with the California Highway Patrol, where several officers were wounded. He was armed to the teeth and wearing body armor reportedly on his way to stage a murderous attack on the ACLU and Tides Foundation because - Glenn Beck on Fox News told him how terrible they were
In audio interviews obtained by MediaMatters, accused shooter Byron Williams says Fox News host Glenn Beck "blew my mind" with "the things he exposed."
Williams is charged with allegedly opening fire on police on Interstate 580 in Oakland, California, while on his way to "start a revolution" by attacking members of the ACLU and the Tides Foundation. As we've reported, the Tides Foundation is a favorite punching bag of Glenn Beck's, and he counts the group among his cabal of liberals aiming to bring socialism to America.
Williams: And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind. Beck would never say anything about a conspiracy, would never advocate violence, he'll never do anything like, of this nature, but he'll give you every ounce of evidence that you could possibly need. Beck is going to deny everything about a violent approach. He's going to deny conspiracies, but he'll give you everything you need to believe them. He's protecting himself, and you can't blame him for that.
Lastly two people from the Sean Hannity's good friend Cliven Bundy's Compound, after they were kicked out, Killed Two Los Vegas Police in an effort like Williams to "
Start a Revolution"
After killing officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo at a pizzeria, the pair stripped them of their weapons and ammunition. They left a swastika, a Revolutionary War-era “Don’t Tread On Me” flag and a note proclaiming, “The revolution is beginning,” on the fallen officers.
The pair then migrated to the nearby Walmart, where a gun-carrying customer, 31-year-old Joseph Robert Wilcox, tried to take down Jared Miller. But police say Amanda [Miller] blindsided Wilcox and fatally shot him at close range, police said.
Investigators believe the Millers' murderous mayhem was motivated by an anti-government and anti-police ideology, but in three previous contacts with the suspects this year, neither expressed that sentiment, police said Wednesday.
So when people like O'Reilly are complaining about 'Violent Rhetoric" like "Pigs in a Blanket" maybe they should first be scolding some of their own friends like Sarah Palin, Bernard Goldberg, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity for their documented and direct roles in inciting violence as well.
Or else they might look like their engaging in "Political Finger pointing". Or "Blood Libel" Or just being a bloody hypocrite.
