Yesterday there were several diaries posted here after Kim Davis announced that God had empowered her to refuse to issue marriage licenses. I looked at most of them and there were probably over a thousand comments posted, most were in support of Marriage Equality and against Davis' unlawful and discriminatory stand. My guess is that these affected Kim Davis and Rowan County not at all. I doubt that she or her supporters are reading Daily Kos.
This is a chance for all those of you who commented yesterday to make your voices heard. Make an impact in Rowan County. It will only take a minute or two and is simple to do.
More below the orange Mariage Equality bridal bouquet.
Judge David Bunning has ordered Davis and all of her deputy clerks to appear before him tomorrow at 11 AM. He will be determining if Davis is in contempt of court for refusing his order to begin issuing marriage licenses to LGBT couples. My guess is that he's requiring the deputy clerks to be there for a reason. He wants them to know that they may be liable for penalties if they refuse to issue licenses. And they may get to see an object lesson if he orders Kim Davis jailed or imposes fines on her.
Also, Davis is an elected official and can't be fired. The deputy clerks are not elected. They can lose their jobs for not performing their duties. Judge Bunning may remind them of that fact.
In any event, we can let Davis and her clerks know how we feel. Preferably before 11AM tomorrow. Perhaps if they get some input from all over the U.S., they may reconsider supporting Kim Davis' policy. They may even try to exert some pressure on her to change her mind, as well.
If you do decide to call, email, use the contact form or fax, I'd strongly suggest that you be polite and non-threatening. Being offensive will just generate fear and resistance. An expression of your dissatisfaction with Davis' discriminatory and illegal stand would be much better. It may cause them to rethink their situation.
I'd suggest that a call to the Rowan County Clerk's office (606) 784-5212 would be a start. I'm sure that the deputy clerks would get the message on that line, or perhaps Davis herself might pick up.
Her office has also supplied a convenient "Contact Us" form: http://rowancountyclerk.com/... that can be used to send your comments.
Or if you want to fax a message, that number is: (606) 784-2923.
Doubtless some of the deputies would see faxes and read the comments in the forms.
To contact Davis directly you can use her email: kimberlyb.davis@ky.gov
Remember, please keep your comments civil and reasonable. Any threats, obscenities or extreme negative comments may not only be illegal but would play straight into the bigots' hands. We don't need to help Kim Davis, Liberty Counsel or their supporters.
