Antiquities looted from the region are being sold around the world, these are not being sold for pennies
In recent months, ancient glass and other artefacts suspected of being looted from parts of Iraq and Syria controlled by Islamic State (Isis) have been discovered for sale in London. Middlemen have peddled larger antiquities on the black market in Turkey and to a global audience using social media.
“A lot of high-end looted material is being offered for sale outside Syria,” says Amr Al-Azm, associate professor of Middle East History and Anthropology at Shawnee State University and chair of the Syrian Heritage Task Force. “I’ve seen collections for sale for $250,000 (£159,000) and large mosaics, which can fetch between $15,000 and $40,000, for sale on WhatsApp.”
Anyone that buys these artifacts should be charged with aiding and abetting war crimes.
As Rumsfeld would say, "stuff happens".
And it keeps right on happening.
He and his cohorts are still walking around free.
