HOMMOSEXUALITY & THE BIBLE
Gotten from Daily KOS clip from The West Wing, when Martin Sheen, as The President, does a smack down of Dr Jacobs, a woman, with a PHD in English Literature, no less, who argues on her show about homosexuality being an abomination, according to The Bible.
People always want to quote the Bible, but it always seems to be the Old Testament they want to quote, when they want to put down Homosexuality, or when they want to prove how righteous they are, but then conveniently forget about all the other stuff, which is in there, which according to our current day, would never be tolerated, because it is bat shit crazy!
Isn't that why there is the New Testament? Where God got tired of all the man-made laws, which were being passed off as being what God wanted, so he sent Jesus to get his people back on track? They ignore all of the other stuff and how crazy it is, but somehow homosexuality is an abomination?
What gives anyone the right to talk about the abomination of homosexuality, but then say nothing about all the other bat shit crazy stuff which is in there. It's a lot like the Middle East, where they take a lot of things literally and don't really think it through.
I'm not a Bible Thumper and I can't quote chapter and verse anywhere in the Bible, my memory isn't that good. All I know is I try to treat people as I want to be treated and try to do as Jesus would want me to do.
More of my thoughts below the fold.
Look at all the crazy stuff ISIS is doing, killing, murdering, raping, be-heading so many people, because they don't believe according to what they regard as true Islam. Look at all the crazy things they demand their women do.
In India:
An unelected all-male village council in India has ordered that 23-year-old Meenakshi Kumari and her 15-year-old sister be raped and paraded naked.
The ‘sentence’ was handed down as punishment after their brother eloped with a married woman.
All the “eye for an eye” type of thinking. Why would you do so much of this, for something we would now consider so crazy? People, like Kim Davis and her ilk, want to prove how righteous they are, but don't stop to think of all the sinning, they are doing, according to their version of the Bible, which is just as bad, probably a lot worse, than homosexuality.
Judge not lest ye be judged! If homosexuality is a sin, then let God worry about it, when the time comes. Worry about yourselves and try harder to be kind loving people, who accept others as they are, not as you wish them to be.
Citing "God's authority" and her belief that gay marriage is a sin, Davis, an Apostolic Christian, stopped issuing all marriage licenses.
If you really get down to it, isn't there a whole lot of things the likes of Kim Davis, and others, are doing, which is against the Bible, according to the Old Testament, or is that okay, because.....hell, it's just okay.
We can just “cherry pick” certain passages, out of who's Bible, to prove how sinful homosexuality is and how we cannot tolerate the Federal Government making all of us “Good Christians” sin, when it was the will of the people, in our good state, to pass a state law banning “Gay Marriage” by saying “Marriage is only between 1 man and 1 woman”.
According to the video clip the following things are also in the Old Testament:
Selling your youngest daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7.
Someone working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says they should be put to death.
Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. Everyone touching a football is unclean?
Does a whole town really have to be together to stone someone, for planting different crops side by side?
Can you burn your mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads?
BARTLET: I like your show. I like how you call homosexuality an “abomination!”
JACOBS: I don’t say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President. The Bible does.
BARTLET: Yes it does. Leviticus!
JACOBS: 18:22.
BARTLET: Chapter and verse. I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here. I wanted to sell my youngest daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She’s a Georgetown Sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be?
BARTLET: While thinking about that, can I ask another? My chief of staff, Leo McGary, insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? Or is it okay to call the police?
BARTLET: Here’s one that’s really important, because we’ve got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you?
I was always taught that God was a Loving, Caring God and we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us. I was taught to respect others religions, even though we don't believe as they do and they don't believe as we do. According to many people, though, it is hellfire and damnation, if you don't abide by the Bible, but then they are teaching us how "they" interpret the Bible, according to their religion.
I'm sorry, but I have a mind and I can see how things have changed drastically today, from what they were so many years ago. Maybe at that time some of it applied, but times have changed and you have to adjust to the times.
God don't need all of us to go forth, be fruitful and multiply, because we were put on this earth to pro-create and that's all. After all, Marriage is between one man and one woman and she is only the "incubator" for the man's sperm, so she should always submit to his desires, whether she feels like it or not. As a woman, she should obey his every wish and command, because after all, he is the man!
You don't need love, because Marriage is just for pro-creation only. When your wife wears out and can no longer have children, then you can seek another, to keep having children, no matter how overpopulated the world becomes and even if there isn't enough food for everyone. So what if the children and everyone else is dying of malnutrition! God will provide!
Wouldn't you think God would expect us to have enough common sense to know when to stop multiplying and help take care of everyone who is already here, seeing they are loved, have enough food to eat and are not living in poverty?
Don't you think he would expect us to know, if we would be a bad parent and not able to provide for our children, when we decide to use birth control? Wouldn't you think he would understand, if some of us realized we could not live our lives as a heterosexual couple, so instead of living a lie and hurting a lot of people, we do not try to fool ourselves into being someone we are not?
