Ben Carson had to know it was coming. He took a shot at Donald Trump, Trump was most definitely going to take a shot back at him.
According to Carson, "the big difference" between him and Trump is that "I’ve realized where my success has come from, and I don’t in any way deny my faith in God." Trump had a few things to say about Carson in response.
"I don't know Ben Carson. He was a doctor, perhaps an OK doctor," Trump said during an interview with CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day."
Carson, he said, is "not a great religious figure."
"But for him to criticize me on my faith is absolutely—and for him to read from the Bible in his memory—it looked like he had memorized it about two minutes before he went on stage," Trump said of a recent appearance in which Carson quoted scripture. "Ben Carson is not going to be your next president, that I can tell you."
"Frankly, he makes Jeb Bush look like the Energizer Bunny," Trump added, taking a shot at Carson's calm, measured delivery.
There will never be a need to say "let Trump be Trump"—you couldn't stop him from being Trump with a sensory deprivation tank and a ball gag. But bonus points to him for working in the Jeb Bush slam.
