Yup. These guys.
If you thought the one thing the fight between virulently anti-LGBT county clerk Kim Davis and actual American laws needed was the inclusion of an awful lot of sketchy people waving guns around,
you're in luck.
The Oath Keepers, the anti-government “Patriot” group that mounted an armed standoff with the Bureau of Land Management at the Bundy Ranch, stationed armed guards outside of military recruitment centers after the Chattanooga shooting, and unsettled Ferguson protestors when they showed up carrying assault weapons, is now offering anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis a “security detail” to protect her from further arrest if she continues to defy the Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling. [...]
[Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes] said that the Rowan County sheriff should have blocked U.S. Marshals from detaining Davis, but since neither the sheriff nor the state’s governor will do their “job” and “intercede” on behalf of Davis, the Oath Keepers will have to do it instead.
Just to be clear, does this mean that if Kim Davis defies court orders again by prohibiting her deputies from issuing same-sex marriage certificates, any attempts to arrest Kim Davis and bring her back before the court will be met with armed resistance? Yes. Yes, it does.
“This is exactly the kind of thing that our Founding Fathers dealt with when dealing with the magistrates and the officers of the crown who wanted to run roughshod over the rights of the colonists without a jury indictment, without any of that,” Rhodes declared. “Same thing. They’re going to show their power and show you who’s boss.”
It's not at all like that. It's much more akin to some Nevada yahoo deciding he doesn't have to pay the same token grazing fees that apply to every other American because reasons, then summoning a collection of heavily armed freelance stumblebums to threaten to murder any government employees who dare act otherwise. But nobody ever accused the Oath Keepers of knowing just what the fart-all they were talking about.
This sets up the distinct possibility of Kim Davis tooling around her County Clerk's office with armed "guards" in tow—you know, for Jesus—while she continues to order the rest of her staff to disobey court orders. Won't that be fun. Here's hoping Mike Huckabee shows up for a photo op for that one, too.
