A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Do you have enemies that you would rather not have as enemies?
Why would anyone want to be enemies with a sweet and unassuming person such as I?
I do not mind having enemies as long as there is some point to it. However I seem to collect pointless enemies - people I have absolutely no desire to have as enemies. Yet by some quirk of fate or, as happens more often, by some small tiny misstep on my part folks take issue with me and do not let go. Thankfully it does not happen every day, but they do seem to reappear on a near weekly basis.
I wish my enemies did not know me.
Mind you, I am not talking about political enemies. I could understand and respect why someone to the right of me (many indeed) or to the left (not so many) of me would take umbrage with views that seem alternately pollyannaish or cynical to them. I am talking about complete strangers oblivious of my political views who still do not exactly wish me well.
There is a "gentleman" who keeps appearing in front of my work once or twice a week. About four weeks ago we had what is termed an altercation at 10 o'clock at night on an otherwise empty street in front of work. I was getting something out of my glove box as he passed me on his bike screaming profanities at me that pierced the night air like shock waves of hate. Took me a few seconds and then I figured out he was incensed because I had not closed my door while I was getting things out.
Unfortunately I did not keep my big fat mouth shut and, instead, answered him in kind. He wheeled abound on his bike and got off. Taller and more muscular than myself, and very drunk, he began waving his finger in my face, whacking my nose a few times with it, as he told me what he was going to do to me. I told him the security camera was watching us and that I had no wish to fight him on the clock. I might also have said I had no wish to see him off it either.
Eventually he rode off as best he could in his drunken state. I went back inside to work thinking that was the end of it. It was not.
Since then he has shown up several times outside of work to glare at me while apparently sober. I admit to being a bit befuddled that he recalls the incident at all, and even more so that it is with such apparent animosity. Don't drunks get into altercations all the time and then later forget about them? Why can't I have run-ins with drunks like that?
Do you have any (unwanted) enemies?
