Rocky Byun is his name.
Perhaps you’ve seen the commercials. A fellow concentrates on several objects, finding a way to balance them, as no one has ever seen them balanced before. When the balance has been achieved, he snaps his fingers - DONE! Some are quite remarkable, indeed.
(Most recently I’ve seen this in a Fairfield Inn commercial. I’m not linking to it. I have no affiliation with them, and care not if you never patronize them.)
APlus says on their website that he can balance ANYTHING! Hmm, interesting.

Here is a YouTube video of some of his creations, without commercial overtones.
As one who appreciates human creativity, I wondered how we could possibly challenge the man, and hit on the answer immediately.
Let’s see if he can balance Republicans!
When I spoke with him (noheckno, I didn’t REALLY speak with him, this is snark), he didn’t even let me finish the first sentence before interrupting.
Listen, I know it sounds like that might be fun, but you can forget it. There is no way to balance a Republican. They revel in imbalance. 1% v. 99%, that’s their cup of tea. The imbalance isn’t merely physical, it’s spiritual, as well. They worship at the altar of political advantage. If God, say, fits into that scheme, well and good. But if not, no worries. Advantage comes first.
Hitting enemies, reinforcing enablers, rewarding collaborators and conspirators. It’s a simple life, but not in balance. It cannot be made to balance, and they don’t want it to be.
Okay, Rocky. Well, how about a YOUNG Republican? Not so practiced in the ways of imbalance. Surely you could balance one of those!
Pass. I have a rep to consider. And though I’m a confident guy, I am confident that what you propose - no matter the age - is impossible, and, not worth the decades it would waste to not achieve it.
Well, how about temporal balancing? Balancing in the medium of time, the future?
I see nothing in the present configuration that bodes well for future balance in that group. So it isn’t just that they’ve achieved an apparent state of physical imbalance. They’ve found a way to perpetuate that into the foreseeable future - further than I can see, at any rate! In most fields I’d consider it an achievement. But as there is nothing productive in it, no contribution, no effort to contribute, it’s more like an unachievement. The opposite of achievement, its exact inverse. It is like anti-matter in a universe of matter, just waiting to touch something, and explode.
Sorry Rocky, I have to give up on the challenge, then. Will let you know if I find a viable one.
Republicans … there’s no balancing them. ::shaking head::
On to tonight’s comments!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From AJayne:
This comment by TrueBlueMajority succinctly describes John Roberts' "reasoning" for his opinion on voting rights in Kerry Eleveld's diary on the Republican establishment's hard-earned woes.
(Followup note from AJayne: TrueBlueMajority advised me the comment originally submitted was actually drawn from "The Notorious RBG's" dissent, so not a novel thought - still quite good, regardless of the source.)
In the same diary, I am adding this comment by native, describing the GOP base.
From CaffeineInduced:
In this comment, andontcallmeshirley makes the case for standing up to religious fundamentalism.
(Ed. note: This is a really fine comment, indeed! Attention, Frederick Clarkson!)
From JBL55:
The comment string started out in an unfortunate manner ..., but The Thinker (Thinking Fella) brought it to a good place! (Riffing on Lincoln Chafee's name)
From TrixieB:
I think Contenius really gets it right in this comment on Biden's abortion stance.
From Wee Mama:
R.I.P. Yogi Berra - This comment is JesusQ mourning him with a perfect Yogi-ism.
