Richard Glossip is scheduled to be killed on September 30th, 2015.
Richard Glossip was sentenced to death by lethal injection in 1998. Although, there is no physical evidence linking him to the crime, there is enough poverty and hearsay to go ahead and kill him. Meteorblades covered this story during the most recent stay of execution.
The man who did kill Barry Van Treese with a baseball bat, Jason Sneed, has a daughter who has insinuated he would like to tell the truth, that Richard Glossip did not put him up to it, but is afraid that he will then be sentenced to death. He is currently serving life in prison.
So thanks Death Penalty. This antiquated not to mention horrendous form of “justice” is standing in the way, again, of the truth.
This morning I received a letter from a woman I met on a train in the UK pleading that Daily Kos help in some way. Her letter made me realize just how terrible the Death Penalty makes America look. Arguing whether Glossip is or is not guilty doesn’t get to the heart of the problem. Why are we as American citizens ok with murder by the state?
Perhaps we aren’t. As of today 245,676 people have signed a petition asking that Glossip not be executed. They don’t know if he is guilty or innocent, no one does. That is the first problem. The other problem is that Oklahoma loves killing people but is bad at it. They botched 3 lethal injections last year. So this year they have upped the dosage. How is that the solution. How is this still a thing?
Here is an idea…
STOP KILLING PEOPLE OKLAHOMA. Don’t kill Richard Glossip and then keep not killing whoever else you have lined up.
35 people were killed by the state last year. So I would like to ask Florida, Texas, Missouri, Ohio, Georgia and Arizona also to PLEASE STOP KILLING PEOPLE.
Go below the fold to read Samantha Mack’s letter to the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board. She lives in Wales where the Death Penalty has been illegal since 1998 and not used since the 60’s.
Dear Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board,
I have been following this case and am distraught this man will be executed and was denied an appeal as the decision was 3-2.
Surely in someone's death it should be unanimous that all judges agree, and the ones that do not agree say the case was deeply flawed.
How can the man that actually wielded the baseball bat be in prison, avoided death as he put the blame on someone else, he clearly had huge benefit in doing this and human nature shows people will do anything to save themselves.
This is barbaric, I of course do not know whether Richard Glossip had any involvement or not, but I do know it is clear he did not get a fair trial and that the person's testimony that convicted him clearly had benefits and as such no trial can therefore be fair.
I urge you from the bottom of my heart and all my family and friends that know about this case, and from the hearts of people of all around the world, please please do not kill this man, he is a human being with rights that have been violated and his blood is on the hands of the justice system of the USA and not just Oklahoma.
I hope and pray for reprieve for Richard Glossip and to hear that you will do something to help.
Samantha Mack
