Hillary Clinton went after Jeb! Monday for his telling remark last week that Republicans were offering black Americans a message of "hope and aspiration" rather than one of "
we’ll take care of you with free stuff." Hillary called the comment "deeply insulting,"
reports Alan Rappeport.
In a question-and-answer session on Facebook, Mrs. Clinton lumped Mr. Bush together with Donald J. Trump and Mitt Romney, who made a similar suggestion in 2012, and said that Republicans have been missing the point when it comes to appealing to black voters.
“I think people are seeing this for what it is: Republicans’ lecturing people of color instead of offering real solutions to help people get ahead, including facing up to hard truths about race and justice in America,” Mrs. Clinton said. [...]
“Republicans have no problem promising tax breaks and sweetheart deals to their corporate friends, but when Democrats fight to make sure all Americans have access to quality, affordable health care, early childhood education and job training, that’s giving away “free stuff”?!,” she said. “Talk about backwards.”
Let's remember that Jeb! actually gave that answer in response to a question about how he would reach out to black voters. Honestly, rarely in politics has there ever been a more ignorant answer given to a meaningful question. It ranks up there with Sarah Palin in 2008 not being able to name one single damn paper she read. Only Jeb!'s a smart and substantive "policy wonk." Right. For someone who so deeply professes to be his "own man," he sure smacks of Bush privilege.
