John Hendren, @fart
John Hendren is on Twitter as
@fart. He was also a guest on HLN News yesterday as a friend/defender of Edward Snowden. The segment was prompted by the news that Edward Snowden had
joined Twitter. Things started in the normal 24-hour-news reporting kind of way. The question up for discussion by HLN anchor Yasmin Vossoughian is, should Snowden be allowed to have a Twitter account while organizations like ISIS are banned and taken down?
Hendren: He's ben isolated for so long we should listen to what he says.
HLN runs a clip of John Oliver interviewing Snowden and pointing out that Snowden is, at least somewhat, complicit in not only leaking debatably sensitive state secrets but real national security secrets that could result in real harm coming to people. Hendren admits that yes Edward could have harmed some people...
Hendren: But to make him invalid, in society, simply because he has scissors for hands, I mean, that's strange because people didn't get scared until he began sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and what not.
Yasmin Vossoughian then reads a tweet from the internets about Russia and then says something about it possibly being hypocritical of Snowden to be in Russia, considering the human rights violations purportedly happening in Russia.
Hendren: Yeah, casting him out is just completely wrong. We are treating him like an animal. Someone who should be quarantined and put away. Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price, incomplete with scissors for hands and no heart—Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero to me.
Vossoughian: [using her hand to smack table for emphasis] But what about the choice he made to live in a country like Russia?
Hendren: I mean, where else is he going to go, you know? I mean we cast him out, we got scared when he poked a hole in the waterbed with his scissor finger but it's just unreasonable of us.
You can watch it below the fold. The recording is not the best quality, but this isn't the kind of clip HLN is going to put up themselves. Enjoy!
