Ron Ramsey, auctioneer par excellence, long-time State Senator from Kingsport, and Lt. Governor of Tennessee has carried the polemic surrounding gun violence to new heights. As reported by Joey Garrison in Nashville’s The Tennessean, Ramsey’s analysis of the killings on the Umpqua Community College campus has led him to conclude that "Whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West." Fortunately he has the solution. "I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit. I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.” Ron, thanks for the insights into the how to defend the hegemony of the Christian faith and the West in general. I only wish that this thinking was restricted to one person, one state, or one region. Regretfully, although not articulated as heavy-handedly as this, the sentiments abound from sea to shining sea.
