A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What is/are you favorite word(s)?
I have to admit that I have been giggling a bit at this latest GOS kerfluffle over the usage (or over-usage) of the word eviscerate. In fact, I can't tell whether it was WB Reeves's diary or Egberto Willes's diary that prompted this response (which misspelled the word).
It seems as if argument evisceration is all the rage in the progressive blogosphere. A few samples from here at Daily Kos will suffice.
There's teacherken's headline of Sept. 10, Gail Collins eviscerates the Republican field.
There's Jen Hayden's headline of March 5, LA Times eviscerates 'Meet the Press' over climate change jokes
Here's a March 14, 2014 headline from our old friend MinistryofTruth where the evisceration is brutal, lol: MUST SEE: Krystal Ball brutally eviscerates the GOP & trashes corporate Dems in one amazing segment
Giles Goat Boy got in on the act with his Feb. 1 diary, Video from 'People For People People' eviscerates pathological liar Scott Walker
Mere destruction of various arguments is no longer be sufficient. The arguments of the extreme right-wing and their oligarchic compadres on the Democratic side must be disemboweled.
This word usage isn't offensive but I do find it interesting that the GOS community specifically and the progressive blogosphere generally has latched on to the process of argumentative evisceration.
It's no longer enough merely to throw daggers or to simply destroy the opposition's arguments.
I can think of a few instances where I have latched on to a word.
Lately, the word inculcate seems to have crept into my writings. I distinctly remember that my Mom (a wordsmith diva in her own right) read one of my Black Kos commentaries and asked me, "Kevin, what the hell is inculcate? What does that even mean? Where did you learn that word from?"
Honestly, I don't know where I learned the word "inculcate" from but I do know that I like the sound of the word.
Another of my favorite words is "succulent." I do remember why I am attached to that word.
About a decade ago, the company that I worked for would buy dinner for OT workers($10.00 or less!). We were given a choice of restaurants to order from. One of those restaurants had a menu item called "Succulent 1/2 Barbecue Chicken." So a number of us just started walking around the office amusing ourselves with talk about "sssssssssssucculent chicken", saying the word succulent as if we were operators on an adult sex chat line. (The restaurant still exists but no longer has that menu item titled "succulent chicken," Truthfully, though, that 1/2 BarBQ chicken was as good as advertised.)
Finally, one of the wonderful things about being black and gay is having cultural access to a variety of both standard and vernacular English. However, I must submit that when soon-to-be-retired Speaker of the House John Boehner is described as "throwing shade" ( as this Talking Points Memo story rightly alleges, lol), then you have to know that the revolution was, indeed, televised, that the show is over, and that you missed it and didn't even record it on DVR.

LOCATION: The Piedmont Center for the Arts
801 Magnolia Avenue [expect city street parking] • Piedmont
Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Activism staff member is part of the cast.
The Piedmont Players present Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, a delicious, satirical political drama set at a nominating convention during a mythical 1960’s era election. A play about power, ambition, political secrets, and the race for the presidency, The Best Man takes place at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party’s nomination for president. It’s an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering, and what could be more fun in a presidential campaign season than these theatrical fireworks?
