Watching Rachel tonight, and just felt very excited to hear her announce that she will moderate a Democratic "forum". Different than a debate, in that every candidate will step up to questions, and then step down for the next candidate.
Sorry, missed the date, but it won't be hard to find. Sanders, Clinton and O'malley have all accepted the invitation. As far as I can tell, Rachel will be the sole moderator.
Apparently because this is a "forum" and not a debate, it squeaks in under Ms. Wasserman Schultz's purview.
Now, chances are a "forum" may not elicit anywhere near the amount of watchers that a debate does, and of course we don't have the sheer political porn of Trump, Carson and Fiorina to offer, either way.
BUT, I find this pretty exciting. I think the media will cover this, there are sure to be some very good sound bites for them to chew on, and I really think even the media may be tiring of covering the republicans. After all, what kind of horse race is that?
I am so happy that Rachel has been given this position, and she made it clear it will run on MSNBC, at least. I so look forward to hearing her questions, and how she counters. I will so be there, with popcorn.
Yeah, it's not more debates, or sooner debates, or debates on better dates, but it is something that could be very good.
For all of us who have wished to see Rachel given even 10% of her due in the totally sexist world of TV journalism, this is a sweet possibility.
And for all of us who wished we could see what Rachel would do if she was moderating MTP, this will be interesting.
Oh, and btw, anyone checked out Chuck Todd's new late afternoon show titled either MTP Daily, or Daily MTP? Saw it for the first time today, and it is a shameless pander to a once credible institution in this country, complete WITH the MTP music, as if something grand and heady is going to happen every day now. Talk about diluting the brand…although that brand has suffered so much, don't think there's much of it left anyway. Still, talk about the length they'll go to prop up Chuck.
Meanwhile, Rachel has anchored their evening ratings forever. Rachel has beat all on that network. And I'll betcha she'll beat Chuck Todd too.
So yeah, maybe it's a smaller bone than we'd like to be thrown, but I'll chew on it with gusto.
Wishing Rachel everything she deserves in this forum format---which is to shine like she usually does, and which is, pollyanna that I am sometimes, that she finally gets the respect and attention she deserves…inside and outside of MSNBC.
