Then, they turn around and make arrests. One of the undercover agents can be seen shooting a captured young Palestinian in the leg at point blank range. Several agents and uniformed soldiers can be seen kicking and punching the young men they've captured. The AFP filmed the same incident from another angle and covers much more of the incident, but that video cannot be embedded.
In 2012, Haaretz reported on a trial where an officer in an undercover Israeli unit described such practices. Activists at the Bil'in demonstrations said the undercover officers began to throw stones to give the IDF a pretext to deploy more violent crowd control methods. Organizers of the demonstration who tried to get the undercover soldiers to stop were arrested.
This is one of many violent clashes across the West bank and East Jerusalem on Wednesday. The violence has left dozens of Palestinians injured along with numerous Israeli security personnel and civilians. A Hamas cell was arrested for the ambush and murder of a young Israeli couple last week, their three young children were in back seat and witnessed it.
Netanyahu has told his cabinet that announcing more West Bank construction now could disrupt talks with the US on additional military aid following the Iran deal.
On Tuesday Channel 2 reported that Netanyahu and his envoy Isaac Molho told ministers that the American administration had issued an “ultimatum” according to which if the cabinet decided on building in the settlements, the U.S. will be forced not to use its veto power on the resolution on the Israel-Palestine issue that France apparently intends to put to the United Nations Security Council.
