Mark Carman
Mark Carman's video is a viral hit. Most of the time "viral videos" involve children doing or saying the darndest of things, people dancing en masse in a contextually strange scenario—every once in a while a viral video is someone talking about an emotional topic and striking a chord in the social media sphere. Sadly, a lot of those videos are people shooting a gun and saying something like "America, dead hands, my ancestors, blah blah, try to take it, angry angry, I have a lot of anxiety and am covering it in bluster..."
Mark Carman's video is a reasonable plea to responsible gun owners to see the benefits, both personally and for the community as a whole, of thoughtful gun control. Now he's trying to take the popularity of the video and organize the people he is trying to reach. He's started a Facebook page and an organization called American Coalition for Responsible Gun Ownership (ACRGO).
ARCGO is a consortium of responsible and trained gun owners who believe in the rights of individuals to own legal and legally purchased firearms. In order to protect the rights of fellow responsible gun owners, it is our mission to do everything in our power to keep firearms out of the hands of the untrained, under-aged, and mentally ill in society. We support background checks, use and safety training, licensing of all firearms, as well as legal purchase and sale of all firearms. Our goal in pursuing these initiatives is to reduce gun violence in America.
In trying to win the hearts and minds of southern males who are enthusiastic about guns, it's important to have other southern males whom are also enthusiastic about guns try to communicate the needs for better gun laws, while cutting through the intense emotion usually involved.
