As I was coming home from work tonight I checked the mail and found only one thing--a book. Oh, what's this? I thought, not having ordered any books recently. I looked over the cover and immediately realized it was one of those End Times books.
A little post card was with it; Remnant Publications is the address. The card says:
OUR GIFT TO YOU
This non-fiction book, The Great Controversy, our gift to you, has been printed in more than 100 languages and been read by tens of millions. Why? Because it's not about sharing bizarre theories--it's about sharing truth without compromise!
Many people around the world, who have already read this book, felt such a burden to give this timely book to you that they donated the funds to ensure that you could have the chance to learn the same amazing truths.
"Truths." Guffaw. I'm not sure which is more amusing--how it claims the book is the truth, or that someone actually wasted money on sending this out unsolicited. It seems to me a better use of $11.95+ would be to spend it on say, helping the poor, you know something the Bible actually tells us to do?
This book accurately depicts monumental events in history beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem, the rise of Christianity, and how that faith became corrupted. It also shares thrilling accounts of men and women who stood for truth and freedom of conscience amidst life-threatening danger--and how their legacy touches the United States today. It also reveals how these truths impact you today and in the near future.
With our world in such disarray, with so little time left, we don't have time to bash religions or people or ideas--we only have time to discover the truth before it's too late.
You will see that, in the end, the great controversy between good and evil comes down to two choices--the traditions and religions of mankind or following the truth of the Bible.

And on the back of the book:
Unparalleled changes taking place around us forecast rapid and distressing events of the greatest magnitude.
Already, in many hearts, there are sorrows and ills that no human balm seem able to heal.
Only God can fix what's wrong with humanity!!
In many places, there are restless and unsettled state of affairs, causing political and religious forces to forge unprecedented alliances.
Separation of church and state?
And, wholly beyond the control of humanity, there are unregulated forces of nature which unleash calamities one after another in quick succession: earthquakes and tornadoes, destruction by fire and flood, often with great loss of life and property.
Solemn and important, indeed, are the events taking place in our times. But what do all these really mean? Could these be warning signs, arousing us to some imminent danger?
It's not global warming, it's the end times!!
What should be our role in the fast-approaching events soon to break upon the earth?
Oh, I can think of a few things. Starting with embracing science, logic and innovation and trying to fix the mess we've made instead of blaming God or Satan or whatever.
The book in your hands provides definitive answers. Drawing upon lessons from history as well as Bible prophecy, The Great Controversy reveals that the world is a theater of conflict. The actors--you and me--are preparing to act our part in the last great drama. And our choices and actions have a part to play in the outcome of this agelong struggle.
So just pray, because there's nothing else you can do because we're all only extras in a cosmic play.
You owe it to yourself to read this book. For, "those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Oh wait, that was my irony meter exploding.
On one hand, free book! On the other hand. . . I'm trying to think of something creative to do with it. I could send it back with a note saying "No thanks, we're godless heathens" or something to that effect. But they'd only send it to someone else and I'd rather keep it from getting into other hands.
