Texas Southern University:
The campus remains on lockdown while police investigate:
We're hearing from Houston police that two people may have been shot in the 3500 block of Blodgett Street near Canfield around 11:30am. The shooting happened at the Tierwester Oaks section of the University Courtyard Apartment Complex. The apartment complex is owned by TSU and is on campus property.
ABC 13 in Houston reports this is the
second shooting on campus this week. See more on both shootings in the video below the fold.
The second shooting at Texas Southern University comes on the heels of overnight news about another shooting at Northern Arizona University:
Officials at Northern Arizona University say a suspect is in custody following a shooting at the campus of the Flagstaff school in the early hours of Friday morning. One person was killed; three other victims are in the hospital.
The shooting was a deadly end to a fight between several students:
NAU Police Chief G.T. Fowler said the shooting stems from a conflict that developed between two groups of students, saying that after the dispute escalated, one of the students "produced a handgun" and opened fire.
Fowler identified the suspect in the case as Steven Jones, an 18-year-old freshman. Fowler said that it's not yet known what the dispute was about, but that Jones did not flee the scene and is cooperating with police.
