A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What is your favorite destination within a day's drive?
It doesn't matter where you live in this country, we all have our favorite spots to get away quickly. Where I grew up in rural Illinois, it usually involved an inner tube float down a creek past pastures and timberland. When I moved to Denver, it was the pristine wilderness of the mountains in every direction west of the metropolitan area.
When I first arrived in California, the love of my life at the time and I lived in Santa Maria, CA. It remains one of my least favorite areas of California, but even there I was within a relatively short drive from the coast of California from Santa Barbara all the way to a lovely central college town that still charms my thoughts, San Luis Obispo.
We took one of our favorite drives yesterday afternoon to visit Larry's Produce and came back over a low pass in the Coastal Range at Napa. It was a glorious early fall day for a drive.
What is your favorite place to shake out your tired cerebral cortex?

SFKossacks Attend Paul Hogarth's Dramatic Appearance in Gore Vidal’s The Best Man
TIME: 8:00 PM
LOCATION: The Piedmont Center for the Arts
801 Magnolia Avenue [expect city street parking] • Piedmont
Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Activism staff member is part of the cast.
The Piedmont Players present Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, a delicious, satirical political drama set at a nominating convention during a mythical 1960’s era election. A play about power, ambition, political secrets, and the race for the presidency, The Best Man takes place at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party’s nomination for president. It’s an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering, and what could be more fun in a presidential campaign season than these theatrical fireworks?
ORGANIZER: Send navajo a kosmail to attend, $25 ticket price. navajo is purchasing a block of tickets. Kosmail her STAT.
