And because they do reporters think it's fine to make snotty comments like this about them:
On Election Day, Democrats have to run the board to take back the Virginia Senate. Twenty-three days out, they’re barely managing a trot.
http://www.richmond.com/...
I will admit that I don't really know what "run the board" means, but if you read on in the article you'll see that the race is a bit close, in my math addled mind. The Democrats have to hold all the seats they have and pick up 2 more to have a majority.
If they add 1 more Democrat seat they have a tie in the Senate and the Lt. Gov. is a Democrat.
Admittedly I don't run at all but that doesn't sound like a trot to me.
Maybe I should stop right here and look up the definition of "running the board" but I'm too irritated.
Some of these Democratic Candidates are like sacrificial lambs, running against entrenched Republicans in gerrymandered districts and being outspent by millions.
And they're doing it without the backing of their own damn party! Aarrgghh!!!
A biased or lazy media doesn't help either. From the same article:
Democrat Gary McCollum is on the defensive, having to explain his Army record: specifically why he claimed to be a major in the Reserve even though he had been discharged 14 years ago. That’s never good in military-rich Hampton Roads.
I don't think that is quite true either. Gary McCollum was swiftboated. Military-rich Hampton Roads? Have the Republicans candidates served in the military? I suppose anything is possible, but if so they would be the exception to the rule.
The bigger part is the Democratic Party leadership though. Atif Qurni, a Democratic candidate for senate in the VA primary says he was told by party leaders to drop out because he is a Muslim. https://www.washingtonpost.com/...
The Republicans would attack him on that and his wife's headscarf would cause him problems. Really? WTF? Aren't we used to head scarves in America yet? When I pass my neighborhood elementary school I see little girls in their school uniforms with headscarves playing soccer with everyone else.
The fall out from that is going to mean bad feelings for Jeremy McPike the Democratic candidate running. It wasn't on him either. He doesn't deserve the ill will coming his way. The leadership of the democratic Party sure does though.
The reporter closes his piece with this:
No wonder they call autumn the silly season.
Well, who is contributing to the silly season? In fact who has a big role in making this the silly season? I would say the media holds a large share of the blame.
So here's what I say. Fuck the media. Fuck the Republican Party and an especially big Fuck Off to the Democratic Party Leaders.
I think we can take care of our own. Especially here at Daily Kos! Check out Gordon20024's articles on VA races. He slogs away (as Denise would say) each and every day writing about these candidates from VA.
They are all supporters of 90for90 too, you can look them up on their website. Go ahead and "like" 90for90 on their website page too. https://www.facebook.com/... They're doing what our own party refuses too. Supporting underdog candidates and working to deliver voters.
They are amazing candidates in VA too. They are Latino and Black and Women and many of them have impressive military service.
So fuck both Party establishments! Let's help these guys win. If you have $2 to spare pick a candidate that appeals to you and donate. (more than $2 is fine too if you have it)
Go to their websites, like them on facebook. Know anyone in VA? Call them or send them an email and tell them you've heard of great candidates in their districts. I think we really can make a difference and if not it will at least feel good to say "fuck you" to those that aren't fighting for our best interests. Sadly, that includes the Democratic Party leadership. For now.....
