A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What are (or will be) your "rules of engagement" (if any)
during this presidential primary season?
This is my first presidential primary season here at Daily Kos.
And it's already getting on my nerves.
Many have said that the vitriol will only get worse and, at this point, is nothing compared to the 2004 and 2008 presidential primary seasons.
Hooooo-boy.
Let me state a couple of things here.
1) I am an uncommitted voter for the 2016 Democratic presidential primary.
Let me repeat that.
As of 9:30 am Monday, October 12, 2015, I am not committed to supporting a candidate in the 2016 Democratic primary.
I would say that I'm 37.5% for Bernie Sanders, 37.5% for Hillary Rodham Clinton, and 25% for Martin O'Malley (which has more or less been pretty static for a couple of months now other than I am taking Martin O'Malley much more seriously).
2) The presidential primary in my state (Illinois) does not occur until March 15; it's over 5 months away. It is quite possible that the outcome of the primaries will be decided by that date. And that, too, could affect my choice of a candidate.
I am tired of both the hero-worshipping and demonization of the Democratic presidential candidates (save that for the Republican candidates!)
All politicians pander. All politicians try to cobble together a winning electoral coalition. All politicians have their strengths and all have their faults.
I am taking into account a number of things including various forms of experience, policy proposals, votes cast, speeches, etc.
The laptop that I am writing on remains a "community laptop" so I do feel a sense of responsibility to Daily Kos and to my commitments (i.e. I am editor of Black Kos). And I am interested in the primary and many of the discussions. However, I generally have no stomach for confrontation and browbeating; that's true online as well as offline. Discussion (however heated) is fine but I have my limitations and boundaries. If those limitations or boundaries are reached, I will let anyone know.
So at this time, I need to engage at Daily Kos wisely. I need, for myself, "rules of engagement." They are:
1) I enjoy the candidate diaries of LieparDestin (Bernie Sanders) and Lysis (Hilary Clinton). I enjoy the balance between advocacy and information that both of the diarists present and that balance is very often reflected in the comments. I frequently read both diaries and I don't mind commenting in either one. Two thumbs up to both LieparDestin and Lysis.
2) I won't be reading or commenting in too many candidate diaries other than to clarify a factoid here and there. Nor will I write such diaries. Besides...
3) I have wanted to return to primarily doing diaries of cultural criticism (especially book reviews). In fact, I have made that turn already and will continue.
4) I will read and comment in various "issue related" diaries. And of course, on some subjects that I don't know much about (climate change, many aspects of the economy), I need to lurk moreso than to say anything.
5) If I really feel the need to cuss (as I was doing late last week), I will simply disengage. If I disengage, please don't troll me.

SFKossacks Attend Paul Hogarth's Dramatic Appearance in Gore Vidal’s The Best Man
TIME: 8:00 PM
LOCATION: The Piedmont Center for the Arts
801 Magnolia Avenue [expect city street parking] • Piedmont
Paul Hogarth, Daily Kos Activism staff member is part of the cast.
The Piedmont Players present Gore Vidal’s The Best Man, a delicious, satirical political drama set at a nominating convention during a mythical 1960’s era election. A play about power, ambition, political secrets, and the race for the presidency, The Best Man takes place at the national convention where two candidates are vying for their party’s nomination for president. It’s an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering, and what could be more fun in a presidential campaign season than these theatrical fireworks?
ORGANIZER: Send navajo a kosmail to attend, $25 ticket price. navajo is purchasing a block of tickets. Kosmail her STAT.
