What a treat it was today to see
Dianne Curry, Democrat for U.S. Congress in the 2nd Congressional District on a Sunday marching in downtown Little Rock for the 3rd Annual LR Capitol Pride Parade.
Curry later told a news reporter, "We have to do more than march. We have to do more than protest or speak out. We must put action to words and one basic action for anyone who wants to represent a community in public office is to show up. I am showing up to march for equality just like others showed up a generation ago to march for my equality both as an African-American and as a woman. We all are in this together and must return the unity to community!"
The former Little Rock School Board President is building a grassroots effort. First and foremost, she largely has had to build her coalition from those who helped in her three successive school board races, because the Arkansas Democratic Party is absent and moribund.
Also, Curry faces the challenge of raising money, most urgently the $12,000 to be on the ballot. Because of the legislature moving up the filing period, she has one month to do it.
Today, Curry announced U.S. Congressman Danny Davis (D-Illinois) has agreed to come in to campaign for Curry and her bid. Davis, a native of Arkansas, will be in Little Rock and Arkansas on November 8th and 9th, right before filing begins.
Curry meanwhile is going throughout the seven counties in the 2nd Congressional District, doing it one person at a time .... one voter at a time.
