I have not seen this written about today but it's just been announced that there will be no COLA increase in 2016. The reason I saw was the low cost of gas.
Give me a break the price of gas is determining any increase in COLA? What about the price of milk, eggs, bread, meat and other grocery staples that have increased? Due to heavy rains the prices of fruit and vegetables have increased but I don't purchase these items at the supermarket because their prices are higher than a produce market where I live. Last year the bread I buy cost me $2.99 and yesterday I had to pay $3.99. I went to the supermarket yesterday and without purchasing any meat my bill came to over $25.00! I purchased pasta that was on sale for .89 cents if you purchased 1 box and .66 a box if you purchased 5 boxes or more so I purchased the 5 boxes which will last me 2 months or more. But this is not considered. My cell bill has gone up by $4.00 as has my other utilities. These things are not taken into consideration. Additionally, I have also heard that there will be a large increase in my Medicare and this will reduce how much I currently receive from Social Security. Cola not only affects seniors but disabled veterans and those getting federal disability. Therefore, this will affect 1/5 of the population of the U.S. Additionally, this is only the 3rd time in 40 years that there has been no increase.
