Hey, I'm a candidate! Don't quote me on me!
You know, I swear that being a campaign manager for a Republican Presidential candidate must be like being a game warden at Jurassic Park. As long as they're in their electrified pen everything is hunky dory, but let them out of sight of a teleprompter and all hell breaks loose.
A perfect example, the most recent example of through the looking glass flip floppery from Marco Rubio. Speaking in an interview with Glenn Beck on his Blaze network Rubio weighed in again on a woman's right to choose;
“Look, I recognize this is tough issue and I actually do believe that a woman has a right to choose with her body,” he added. “The problem is that when there’s a pregnancy, there’s another life involved and that life has a right to live. And so, as policymakers we have to choose between two competing rights, and I’ve chosen as a matter of principle to choose life in that debate.” Italics mine.
Did you ever get dizzy and fall down from spinning your kid around in a circle too many times with their feet flying in the air? Read that statement too often and the same thing will happen, I guarantee it. after laying in a dark room for an hour with a cool washcloth on my forehead I think I finally gleaned the core of his point. A woman has every right to consult with her doctor and choose how to keep her weight down, or how to treat her diabetes, or whether to get a pap smear or breast exam, but when it comes to the most basic, fundamental decision a woman can ever be faced with, "don't sweat it little lady, the government has you covered on this one, no choice needed on your part, see you in 9 months".
Marco, Marco, Marco, how can you possibly expect to get elected President of the United States without significant support from the most pivotal voting bloc in the country? And how do you expect to get their support if you come off sounding like the Rosslyn village idiot? Especially since you've already made your position crystal clear with 20,000,000 people listening to you? From the first Republican debate on Fox;
RUBIO: Well, Megyn, first of all, I’m not sure that that’s a correct assessment of my record. I would go on to add that I believe all–
KELLY: You don’t favor a rape and incest exception?
RUBIO: I have never said that. And I have never advocated that. What I have advocated is that we pass law in this country that says all human life at every stage of its development is worthy of protection. In fact, I think that law already exists. It is called the Constitution of the United States. Italics mine.
"pass law in this country that says all human life at every stage of its development is worthy of protection." Ummmmm, are you saying ban abortion in all cases, including rape, incest and health of the mother? It sure sounds like it from here El Marco. But that's O.K., women already have sooooo many other choices open and available to them that they'll never even miss this one.
Good luck with that one Marco, make sure you let me know how that one works out for you with the little ladies.
Thanks as always for reading!
