Houston is considering adding nondiscrimination protections for the city's LGBT population (
among others) via a ballot measure Nov. 3, and the wing nuts are obsessing over bathrooms. They want ultimate control over who pees where. It's very important to them and they've put together
a video warning that passing the equal rights ordinance means registered sex offenders will start following young girls into bathrooms.
"Any man at any time could enter a woman's bathroom simply by claiming to be a woman that day," the video claims. "Even registered sex offenders could follow women or young girls into the bathroom."
Yep, that's right. Protecting LGBT people from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations means that registered sex offenders will suddenly become predatory. Not passing those protections means they won't be predatory and everyone will be safe.
The video was created by the "Campaign for Houston," which opposes the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). It's a classy operation, notes Zack Ford.
Whereas in September, the campaign’s ads claimed that transgender women are “filthy, disgusting, and unsafe” and implied that HERO puts women and children “at risk” and “in harm’s way,” the group’s statements have tried to raise the stakes even more since then. [...]
A group of Houston’s pastors used similar high-stakes rhetoric at a rally against HERO last week, hosted by Second Baptist. One pastor, unnamed by ABC 13’s news report, condemned HERO as “deadly, decisive, and damning.” Dr. Floyd Williams Sr., of Antioch Church, said he believes “HERO is the most dangerous thing that’s ever been orchestrated in the city of Houston.”
Yep, equality is a very dangerous thing. Watch the ad below the fold.
