I was having a discussion elsewhere on DailyKos where someone claimed that Obama had raised, in Q3 2007, more than 60 million dollars, blowing Sanders' 26 million dollars in Q3 2015 out of the water by comparison.
That factoid about Obama rather surprised me and so I decided to do a little digging. (After all, you can't believe everything you read on the internet, right?)
Long story short, according to the FEC (instructions to get to the source below the orange coil) then Senator Obama had total contributions of less than 21 million dollars.
Let that sink in...
At this point in the primary Sanders is significantly higher in terms of fundraising totals than Obama was in 2007.
From my research, apparently the person who made the argument likely got the erroneous information from OpenSecrets, so I'm writing this diary to set the record straight and give my fellow Sanders supporters some additional perspective.
Edit: Just some supplemental information. If we have an inflation rate since then of 14% then Obama raised 24 million dollars in 2015 dollars. Still lower than Sanders' 26 million. Special thanks to nosleep4u.
You don't have to take my word for it. The information is on the FEC's website. Unfortunately it does not allow direct linking so you have to follow these instructions, thoughtfully provided by CA4Bernie over at Reddit.
