Democrat Lincoln Chafee has announced that his 2016 campaign for the presidency has come to a sudden halt. Chafee spent 4 years in office, as Rhode Island’ governor, but he decided not to run for re-election. He had his eyes set on becoming the next American president, but that fell through after his short-term campaign was halted. Chafee campaigned for over four months, but struggled to advance due to his fundraising failures.
Just this week Vice President Joe Biden also announced that he would not place his bid for the 2016 presidential campaign. This may have been a devastating decision for the Democratic Party, since Hillary Clinton appears to be struggling with the infinite Benghazi rumors. Millions of voters sat idle Thursday, while Hillary testified before the Benghazi committee.
Hillary remained strong throughout the 11 hour interrogation, even though she was pushed and prodded by no other than the Republican congressman Trey Gowdy. The Benghazi attack became known to many as the “Benghazi scandal”, since it left four American diplomats dead and 10 others injured, after a plea to the State Department for additional security was denied.
Hillary Clinton has come to her own defense stating that Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens did not contact her about the security threats revolving around the Benghazi compound, which was located in Libya. The State Department and President Obama denied that the attack was terror related, but instead they blamed it on a spontaneous protest, which was triggered by the video, “Innocence of Muslims”. This video was known to contain anti-Muslim propaganda, which sparked the attack according to the American media.
These allegations were later debunked by ongoing investigations that probed into the actual event. Hillary has taken responsibility for the lapses in security at the consulate and has not changed her story. While many democratic voters are standing by Hillary’s side, everyone will have to wait and see how this rumor will affect her candidacy.
According to Real Clear Politics, Hillary remains in the lead over Sanders 43.0 to 35.0, while Trump has a significant lead over Carson 27.2 to 21.4.
