Oof. Donald Trump has officially lost his grip on Republican Iowa voters.
Yet another poll shows him trailing Ben Carson in the important early state—and it's not just that Carson is rising. Trump is falling. In the latest from Monmouth University, Trump is at 18 percent to Carson's 32 percent. Back in August, they were tied at 23 percent apiece, so Trump's support has fallen by five points while Carson's is up by nine points. Like I said—oof.
Carson leads Trump among women and men, evangelical and non-evangelical voters, and in all the ideological groups Monmouth categorized.
As for the rest of the field:
The next tier of candidates includes Ted Cruz (10%), Marco Rubio (10%), and Jeb Bush (8%). They are followed by Carly Fiorina (5%), Rand Paul (3%), Mike Huckabee (2%), Bobby Jindal (2%), and John Kasich (2%). None of the other five candidates tested topped 1%.
This one's going to be entertaining, that's for sure—if you can cram down the despair at the fact that this is real life, not some wacky comedy about the worst possible presidential candidate.
