profiled the U.S. House Representative from North Carolina’s 5th District, Virginia Foxx, an unintentional Church Lady cosplayer who on Capitol Hill has earned the hilarious nickname “Hold Yo’ Biscuits” for her propensity to attend Washington buffets and show up with giant coats and sweaters, so that she can stuff her pockets with as much food as she can carry from the buffet, as if her six figure Congressional salary does not provide her with enough cash to afford groceries. When Foxx was still a North Carolina State Senator, she proudly compared herself to legendary unapologetic segregationalist Jesse Helms, and upon arriving in Congress, became one of only 11 members of Congress to vote against Disaster Relief for victims of Hurricane Katrina, which is even more frustrating when you consider how often her home state gets hit with hurricanes. She referred to the AIG bank bailout by calling it a “tar baby” and then defended her remarks by saying she was unaware the term was a racial slur (but didn’t apologize). Foxx is also a specialist at revising history to fit her own party’s policy stances, like how she tried claiming the death of Matthew Shepherd was not a hate crime, but just a robbery (and anyone who says otherwise is perpetuating a hoax)… or the time that she claimed Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act without much help from Democrats… or the time she claimed Jared Loughner, the shooter in the Tucson, AZ mass shootings was a “
communist” and the “
liberal of liberals”.
Now, being a dippy twit has apparently not stopped Virginia Foxx from being elected time and again, as she managed to earn herself a sixth term in Congress in the 2014 elections, coming away with 75% of the vote in the GOP primary for her seat, and 61% of the vote in the general election agaubst Democrt Josh Brannon. And her partisan streak has continued:
-July 10th, 2014: Rep. Foxx votes for House Amendment 1040, to prevent the implementation of the dreaded United Nations Agenda 21 Treaty, that in spite of just being recommended climate change guidelines, have many conspiracy theorists within the extreme right convinced it’s a plot for global domination.
-January 22nd, 2015: an anti-abortion bill, HR 7, was moving through the House, and was halted because even some members of the GOP were put off by the language in the bill regarding its definition of rape. Virginia Foxx, however, had no problem with that, and voted for it anyway.
-February 3rd, 2015: Rep. Foxx co-sponsors and votes for the latest Republican attempt at repealing the Affordable Care Act. This in spite of the fact that the law is not just working, but better than experts predicted.
-March 3rd, 2015: Foxx votes against funding the Department of Homeland Security as part of a Republican protest of President Obama’s executive orders on immigration.
-May 13th, 2015: Virginia Foxx voted for HR 36, a ban on abortion at 20 weeks, which he also co-sponsored.
-June 26th, 2015: Rep. Foxx publishes a press release after the Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage where she stands by her belief that it should remain between one man and one women, and that she will continue to do all that she can to protect the sanctity of the institution.
-September 11th, 2015: Foxx votes against the United States' nuclear treaty with Iran.
-September 18th, 2015: Rep. Foxx votes with most House Republicans to defund Planned Parenthood, based on highly edited “sting” videos submitted by a Pro-Life advocacy group that have been repeatedly debunked by investigators.
Now, outside of her voting record, which has always included votes against equal pay for women, or restrictions on abortion rights… Virginia Foxx reached all new lows on October 7th, 2015, when she managed to ignore all early investigations, and facts regarding Planned Parenthood, and introduced a resolution to create a special House panel at taxpayer expense that would “investigate” Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, claiming that they deliberately altered their procedures to dismember unborn children:
"The creation of this panel ensures the House exercises one of its most fundamental constitutional responsibilities, oversight of the use of federal funds and compliance with federal law. Undercover videos have revealed that an organization that receives hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars annually, Planned Parenthood, has also been taking the remains of unborn children and selling them to tissue collection firms. Its staff has reportedly even altered their medical procedures to more effectively dismember unborn children. How can we in Congress ignore these charges?
Even if these abortion providers somehow managed to comply with all federal laws while dismembering children, it's clear that we need to learn more about their barbaric tactics so we can amend those laws and ensure practices like these never happen again, particularly by organizations receiving millions from U.S. taxpayers."
Foxx does not have a Democratic challenger at this time, but we do know she will be challenged in the GOP Primary by Pattie Curran, who gained some notoriety for appearing in attack ads during the 2014 elections directed at then Senator Kay Hagan. Both are trying to run to the right of each other (of course), in what could be a very ridiculous primary battle.
