Because sometimes we need to take a break from the negative, this short video clip is a reminder that people are basically good, and that random acts of courage and kindness are happening around us - every day.
This video began circulating social media in 2011 under the title, "SHOCKING!" And, okay, when it showed up in my Facebook newsfeed, my inquiring mind just had to know what was so shocking about it. I got sucked in and was thinking I might feel guilty for what I was about to see, when lo and behold, I was slapped upside the head with a big dose of happy. And it soundtracked with the sound of Supertramp's song, "Give A Little Bit."
The LoveEverybody.Com piece was quickly embraced that year and did well, even though the views at the time were not even close to being comparable to today's viral status. But it was a hit and then fell off the planet. Oddly, in 2013, the same video suddenly appeared in a Coke commercial … during the Super Bowl Game. What's interesting is up until that point, most Super Bowl ads debuted on the day of the game. The fact that this video had been circulating all over the internet for two years prior is a bit of a wonder. Did the mega soda giant Coca-Cola originally turn down the video in 2011, then pick it back up after seeing the success it achieved on social media? Or was this a planned out campaign? Whatever it was, they did good. Regardless of when, or why this video was made, it warms the heart.
Some of scenes are pretty shocking. One scene shows a man pushing a stalled vehicle over a railroad track to save a life, then barely getting away with his own life, before an oncoming train races by. I've watched the scene more than I want to admit and each time it takes my breath. Another act of bravery shows a man jumping out into the street to save a little dog. Who's not gonna love that guy?
And okay, yes—I'm a bit of a fanatic about this little jewel of a video, and have watched it more than a few times. It lifts my spirits each and every time I take 90 seconds to watch it, so I keep it tabbed and easily to access. It feels good and it makes me smile—and what's wrong with that? Not a damn thing.
