On Saturday, a coalition of eight leading national and local American Muslim groups, held a press conference in Washington, D.C., to condemn the carnage.
The New York-based Islamic Circle of North America, a member of the coalition group, said the organization “stands united with the people of France” and urged the French authorities to take “swift action in apprehending the perpetrators of this attack and bring them to justice.”
The group’s president, Naeem Baid, added: “This kind of violence is inhuman and barbaric and is not justifiable by any religion.”
Muslims throughout the world strongly condemned Saturday the terrorist attacks in Paris, which left at least 129 people dead and hundreds wounded in a half-dozen coordinated shootings and explosions throughout the city. Iranian officials were quick to condemn the Islamic State group, which took responsibility for the attacks, and urged for the international community to stand together against the extremist group.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani sent a message to French President Francois Hollande Saturday, informing him Iran was offering its thoughts and prayers to the French people. Iran and its allies, Hezbollah and the Assad regime in Syria, have been fighting ISIS. Rouhani also announced he has postponed a planned trip to Italy and France. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who worked with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to reach the Iran nuclear deal, was quoted by Iranian state-run news agency IRNA saying he condemned “terrorist operations at any forms” and that Iran, as a victim of terrorism, has always rejected terrorist activity.
Iran denounced these attacks: What does THAT tell you?
Indonesia, all the Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Egypt condemned the attacks. I have not watched TV news for a long time so I have no idea if this is being reported on/focused on much. I read CNN this am and did not really see anything there about it.
Nope. Just checked. CNN is going with “BOMBER POSED AS REFUGEE”, so forget them. That’s feeding into the rightwing nonsense that feeds Islamophobia and massages racism and nationalism. I am assuming there are no huge displays of Muslims denouncing these attacks playing on FOX or CNN. I have totally forgone my usual traipse to Yahoo News to look at the outpouring of racist hate: I can’t take it right now. I know good and well what waits there. UGH.
I posted because I get sick of the wingnut outpouring of Islamophobia and racism every time some psychopathic organization flying some religious flag commits a barbaric act. Islam is no more reflected in terrorist acts than Jesus or Christianity is reflected in an M16 with Bible Quotes engraved upon it.
I don’t believe, for a moment, that real, actual, genuine Muslims have anything to do with this and I take exception to those who insist on lumping all Islam in with psychopaths like ISIS and al Queda. Those groups do NOT represent Islam any more than, again, a machine gun inscribed with Jesus’s teachings.
