From Shaun King at The Daily News:
...When the man who oversees America's largest police department — Bratton — states publicly that peaceful protesters are getting his police officers killed, it puts demonstrators everywhere in harm’s way.
Bratton said on Tuesday, “We have been through quite a year this past year, beginning with the demonstrations last November and December — the street demonstrations — that led to the murder of two of our police officers.”
This is just not true. Not one street demonstration got an officer killed. No New York protesters have killed an NYPD officer. In fact, no protesters connected to the Black Lives Matter movement, or any movements against police brutality, have ever killed a police officer anywhere in the United States.

Bratton is referring to the murder, last December, of officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos by a disturbed lone gunman, Ismaaiyl Brinsley. Brinsley fled to Brooklyn from Baltimore, where he had just shot his girlfriend, and indicated on social media that he was intent on killing police. Unfortunately, though a warning went out to NYC police, it only arrived at around the time of the killings.
Brinsley had a long rap sheet and no connection whatsoever to the Black Lives Matter movement. To say that peaceful protests occuring nationwide at the time were what caused his homicidal rampage is irresponsible and dangerous.
As Shaun King recommends, Mayor DeBlasio should correct this statement from his police chief, as well as make Bratton face some kind of disciplinary action.
Thanks, Shaun King, for keeping us abreast of this odious development.
