THE story of the day—perhaps THE story which exemplifies our times—is being camouflaged, if not buried, beneath excessive coverage of Donald Trump and incremental jockeying for poll percentages in the pathetic GOP primary. I pray that you agree that the hypocrisy detailed below deserves such high rank and that we, if no one else, must use whatever venues we can to get action and perhaps even make this A story in and of itself of a STAND against repeating a major foolishness that has already destabilized the world.
Every day we are bombarded with shock and awe of a growing horde of haters and fraidy-cats lining up behind the Emperor of Misinformation, Donald Trump, as POTUS-to-be to save Americans from demon Islam and it’s head-lopping crusader lords, ISIS. Meanwhile a picture of our current POTUS is painted of a weak do-nothing. Excuse me but while the US has been engaged in one kind of fighting with ISIS, most sensible people agree Islam is a religion not an imperialistic organization coming to convert us at sword point. But the zinger of harshist of harsh ironies is that our president has committed to a course of action which promises to provide the biggest bang for the buck in the fight against ISIS and the Republican Congress has sat idle on it for 223 days and counting—watching death, caring not, it seems. President Obama‘s nomination of non-partisan counter-terrorism expert, Adam Zubin, who has singular expertise on how to disrupt ISIS money transactions world wide has gone nowhere. How is it that the media, perhaps people in general, see this huge coin having only one side? (In other words “ISIS is bad, we must fight them, but sniffing out and stopping their funding doesn’t count as anything”.)
Every time a Republican whines about the danger of ISIS, we must hop on that opportunity to remind them that the Republicans in Congress have had all the power and green lights they have needed to take the financial wind out of ISIS’ sails and perhaps throw them into fatal disarray (because fighters and propagandists are currently are paid quite well and expanding their influence is costly). But for 223 days the Republican-controlled Congress has not lifted a finger to bring this intelligent fight to the enemy of western civilization. No, it’s not because they have a good reason and know something that makes confirming Zubin a risky or wrong thing to do. Some chalk it off to hate and unwillingness to see “Obama”, otherwise known as The President of the United States, succeed. And due to the fact that there actually is an industrialized hate and paranoia machine in the media all but directly endorsing such an anti-American assumption, it would not be surprising that sentiments might go that way. There is also however a gang mentality in the highest levels of Republican control of federal and state offices where the initiator of cooperative action is subject to consequences like being called a RINO and then being primaried in the next election. Alabama Senator Shelby was the last one to block the confirmation of Zubin—his stated reason? “Because we’re going home for Christmas”. To hell with anyone who might have their head chopped off in the mean time I guess the attitude is.
No, Republicans don’t get the greased slide toward a shooting war again without stiff opposition if there are smarter ways to weaken or destroy our enemies. And this is exactly where we are—being overloaded with angry and fearful messages from irresponsible zealots even picking the wrong enemy. Please, *on my hand and knees*, please help our fellow Americans see the astounding hypocrisy and try with me to create a coherent and cohesive voice reflecting the facts so that it doesn’t seem like one person’s partisan opinion they can just dismiss. Check the facts for yourself. There are plenty of ways to do it. World-changing stakes at issue. Thank you.
