In the never-ending Shia (Iran) and Sunni (Saudi Arabia) battle for Islamic dominance, since the Islamic Republic rose to control Iran over 30 years ago, the Iranian Regime has been bent on de-stabilizing Saudi/Sunni strongholds throughout the region, and the world with the express intention of spreading its own Shia influence. Yemen—the back yard of Saudi Arabia, and the gate-keeper to the Straits of Tiran, is the ideal geo-political destination to incite yet another Shia insurgency against the very-Sunni, Saudi aligned majority.
As the conflict in Yemen has escalated over the past few weeks and undeniably turned into a war, many news-outlets and media sources have absurdly and irresponsibly labeled the situation a “Saudi-Led War,” when in reality, this was is Iranian bred, Iranian funded, Iranian advised and Iranian led. And here is why…
The Shia Militia in Yemen is the Houthi Militia—a group of radical, regressive individuals banded together by religious identity, and radical ideology. Although they too are Yemeni, Iranian influence (culturally and politically) in their strongholds is rising every day. For example, the propaganda posters once seen on the streets of Tehran to promote the Islamic Revolution of 1979, have now found a home on every corner of Houthi territory—with some extra content added.
Iranian taxpayer money is going straight to funding Houthi terrorism (yes, bombing civilians) and insurgency against Sunni Yemen. Whether its arms and ammunition, propaganda, or military advising—Iran has got it covered. Don’t forget that Iranian military officers have even been arrested in Yemen.
A doubly harsh reality for Iranians; as even the basics become harder to afford for Iran’s people, their money is shipped overseas to fund the Iran Regime’s religious war.
It is no secret that Saudi Arabia is backing the Yemeni government and is also carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis. But that’s not to say this is a Saudi-led war—it is, and was, the direct product of the Iran Regime’s radical Foreign Policy.
While both sides have acted irresponsibly, and with no regard for the sanctity of human life (as is common place in Islamic conflict), it would be doubly- irresponsible for the Western world to label this war as anything but what it is—a war started by Iran, led by Iran, funded by Iran. All this against the backdrop of the Nuclear Deal, Iran’s way of “showing the West” its commitment to stability and peace.
When Iran is funding wars around the world, flogging and executing its own people, sponsoring terrorism against Western targets, denying its women basic human rights, and more… can we really trust that they will uphold their commitments according to the Iran Deal? I think not…
