People are dying from his and his appointees decisions, which should be viewed as criminal negligence. They knew in 2013 about the potential for lead poisoning!
From the Detroit Free Press
State and local officials knew in 2013 that without proper treatment of water drawn from the Flint River, they risked subjecting the people of Flint to lead-contaminated drinking water.
From eclectablog
This outrageous situation boils down to this: state officials approved a plan for using Flint River water that was inadequate despite knowing the risks since 2013 and then, once lead began to show up in Flint residents’ water, they altered a report in violation of federal law that would have required action.
The poisoning of Flint residents by their own state government has lawmakers calling for an investigation. Both state Senate Democratic Leader Jim Ananich and Congressman Dan Kildee are calling for a federal investigation by the USEPA:
From TruthDig
“The source of the Flint Water Crisis leads directly to Gov. Rick Snyder and the fiscal austerity policies that he and his Republican colleagues have been pushing for years on Michigan residents,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan,” in a statement released Thursday. “Families in Flint were forced to drink lead-tainted water while the administration scoffed at their concerns and cries for help. An entire generation of Michiganders now face an uncertain future because of Republican cuts to essential and life-giving services.”
It doesn’t make sense. Parents have their children removed from their homes for legally smoking medical cannabis, but austerity trumps peoples lives, especially considering majority of the residents of Flint are black.
These people KNEW about the possible pit falls (poisoning) of changing water systems and illegally changed the tests, all to “save” money. I reckon that’s not what will happen, especially considering people are dying and continued to be poisoned.
People, please wake up. This is what “neo-liberal” economics looks like, irregardless of which political party is selling it. In the “broader sense” this is also a reflection that in this country, health care is not a right.
Why is the man, and his appointees not face criminal charges for criminal negligence? Anybody with two brain cells to rub together could determine the decision to switch water supplies was a bone headed thing to do. Not taking into consideration all the factors, that any REASONABLE person would have done, which was also required by EPA LAW, WHICH THEY CHANGED THE TESTS! would have at least suspected their could be wide spread contamination of lead of other potential dangers.
This is not rocket science! It is the NEEDS of the people that should matter, not the economic or politics, the PEOPLE’s NEEDS are what MATTERS! That should be the driving force of our decisions, does it meet the peoples NEEDS? (Not to mention at least follow the law, which they did not!)
(facepalm)
