The counting in Iowa wasn't done before Martin O’Malley suspended his campaign for president. The former Baltimore mayor and Maryland governor got into the race seemingly planning to be the challenge from Hillary Clinton’s left, only to be outflanked and outperformed by Bernie Sanders. O’Malley never gained traction on, well, anything through the campaign, and, drawing basically none of the Iowa caucus vote, he is announcing that he’ll suspend his campaign.
“Suspend,” of course, generally means “I’m dropping out but keeping my campaign officially alive to try to retire some of my campaign debt.”
