This comes straight from an email I received today from Chad Barefoot, my State Senator.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that
it's recommending routes for the final segment of the Complete 540 Project, and
their recommendations do not include the controversial "Red Route" that would have
split communities throughout Garner and Southern Wake County. Instead, the
department recommended using the orange, green and mint routes.
Environmentalists acted immediately to
criticize<http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article58125663.html>
the Department of Transportation's decision to prioritize people over plants.
"Global warming activists and the environmental lobby continue to push the radical
and false idea that the only way to preserve wetlands is to bulldoze our communities
and forcibly remove people from their homes," said Sen. Chad Barefoot (R-Wake). "We
still have a long way to go, but this is an important step in the right direction.
It's a victory for Southern Wake and all the citizens who stepped up to provide
input and make their voices heard. My hope is that the citizens of Garner no longer
have to worry about rebuilding their communities and finding new places to live."
The North Carolina Department of Transportation will now wait for comment from the
federal government before announcing the official preferred route this spring.
My question has got to be...why are we always “global warming activists” and “the environmental lobby” as if that were a bad thing...to want to preserve a habitable planet for those that follow?
People get forcibly removed from their homes under Eminent Domain all the time...but you do not hear Republicans objecting to it when the Eminent Domain is granted for something like a fucking big-box store! That has actually happened! In Alabama, if memory serves.
No, it is never a fun thing to have to move, I know, I have done eight cross country moves of more than 500 miles in my lifetime (not counting cross-town moves from one apartment to another) Why is it that, for Republicans, it is always a zero-sum game...and if one side “wins” the other side must be the “losers?”
Why aren’t we ALL winners when we preserve a habitable planet for ourselves and our children?
