Or, as the elite marketing corps is currently calling it, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) postings.
We’re getting (sometimes) a much more sophisticated class of Spammers on Daily Kos lately. They take the time to write an article that truly looks as though it’s consumer oriented, well sourced with a number of legitimate links — and in many cases, the information given may in fact be both correct and useful.
And the longer and more complex the article, the less you’re likely to check all the links, especially if the information in the article is fairly complete.
But before you Tip or Recommend… please…
1. Check the User Profile. Is this the first or second diary in a short span of time that the user has done? If so,
2. Check all the links. If one or more go to individual firms, that’s the first tell.
3. Check the text. If it calls out specific firms rather than publications or agencies, that’s the second tell.
You don’t have to flag such a post, or tag it as Spam
but please don’t recommend it before the rest of the community has a chance to look it over. If you’re unsure, post a question at the Help Desk under the Spam and Copyright Violations section, and it will be looked at more closely.
Thank you.
