The organizers of SF Pride announced that Black Lives Matter has been selected as the Organizational Grand Marshal for the 2016 SF Pride Parade. The event had an estimated attendance of 1 million people last year. Being selected to be a Grand Marshal for the celebration is a huge honor. From their press release:
An international network of more than 30 chapters working for the validity of Black life, Black Lives Matter is working to (re)build the Black liberation movement and affirm the lives of all Black people, specifically Black women, queer and trans people, people who are differently abled, and those who are undocumented and formerly incarcerated. Centering on those who are marginalized within Black liberation movements, Black Lives Matter imposes a call to action and response to state-sanctioned violence against Black people, as well as the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society.
Black Lives Matter will not be the only Grand Marshall for the event, of course. There are usually about a dozen people/groups chosen, some selected by the SF Pride Board of Directors and others by community vote. BLM was selected by the board. All are vetted and categorized by well established criteria.
San Francisco Pride's Grand Marshals are local heroes from the nine-counties of the San Francisco Bay Area who have made significant contributions to the SF Bay Area LGBTQ community, or as openly gay members of the LGBTQ community, have made significant contributions to society at large.
Our Grand Marshals represent the LGBTQ community's highest ambitions for inclusion, justice and equality, and Pride welcomes the community's input in our selections. San Francisco Pride's Grand Marshals fall into the following categories:
- Community Grand Marshals
- Organizational Grand Marshals
- Lifetime Achievement Grand Marshals
- Celebrity Grand Marshals
Thank you, SF Pride for taking this bold and decisive stand, and congratulations to everyone who has made Black Lives Matter into a movement that this country should be proud to embrace. I will see you at the celebration and will cheer for you until I lose my voice.

Submitting this comment by KroneckerD. It tickled me with its cheekiness and succinctly brought up the revolving door that needs to be highlighted for any party.
