The game is now changing as The Donald believes that he is being treated unfairly by the GOP “establishment”. Reince Priebus has called tRump to DC like the Mountain to the (insert prophet here). The outsiders and insiders now try to stop migration, repelling Beltway borders. Maybe the RNC will help defray the $50k chump change forfeited when Trump canceled his CPAC speech.
Hunter S. Thompson gave us that concept of rampant political idiocy in Hey Rube: Blood Sport, the Bush Doctrine, and the Downward Spiral of Dumbness (2004).
Trump’s unscheduled 45 minute meeting today at the RNC’s DC headquarters seems like damage control, now that the Barbarian at the gatekeepers seems not to reliquish a lead despite Bill Maher’s endorsement of Ted Cruz. It must be chaos if the anti-religious Maher is willing to support a Dominionist over a blowhard. The clowns have taken control of the main ring in the tent. Barkers are now true believers.
"Hey, Rube!" is a slang phrase most commonly used in the United States by circus and traveling carnival workers, with origins in the middle 19th century. It is a rallying call, or a cry for help, used by carnies in a fight with outsiders
How uncritical has been the mainstream media (MSM), not unlike Limp Gasbag’s canard, “Drive-By Media”? With the rise of Trump/Cruz, have we achieved that moment of uncritical journalistic stenography or Edward R. Munchausen by Proxy?
In the case of The Circus on Showtime produced by Bloomberg Politics we get the reality TV profanity comingled with filmic documentary that is now uncensored in more basic cable as TNT plots use “sh*t” and “@sshole” with frequency and un-blanked. Since they rarely dine in cheap dives but always opine over drinks, it’s like if CNN’s Parts Unknown was hosted by Rich Lowry.
We do get some slightly more candid responses from the weekly candidates of the moment including some background occasionally on Trump, Cruz, and Kasich, which is informative in terms of glimpsing their actual personas just before/after political events, making the program more carnival midway sans rubes than circus tent and quite the contrary to #Bernienotsowhite.
The celebrity Journalists of the waning “Game Change” moment, Halperin & Heilemann, with Mark McKinnon’s millinery fashion statement in some ways simply served as a trial exploratory committee balloon and perhaps a pre-positioned signal to find that: An independent run for president by Michael Bloomberg, shown in 2013, could result in a constitutional crisis.
Reporters describe Donald Trump events as frightening and unsettling for those in the media. Trump relegates the media to rectangular pens they're not allowed to leave, singles out reporters with personal insults and refuses entry to those he doesn't like, and whips up his crowds against reporters he says are "very dishonest people." Will there be a free press under a President Trump?
The spectacle of shock/awe militarism of the Bush-Cheney variety will be revisited by any GOP POTUS among the rolling-back of so much of the past eight years. We knew this even if it may have only been for some a marginal improvement and not a reversal of the economic neoliberalism of the Bill Clinton regime.
Corporatist MSM will continue to be complicit in those events, giving us Donald the candidate in place of Joe the Plumber, and Halperin/Heilemann are embedded civilian bachelor(ette) combat reporters. The GOP debates have been those WWE spectacles, and perhaps only a floor fight with thrown chairs in Cleveland might provide adequate ratings enthusiasm for any “new voters”.
...media apologists suggest that the press could not have done much better, since “everyone” was in agreement on the intelligence regarding Iraq’s weapons threat. This was never the case. Critical journalists and analysts raised serious questions at the time about what the White House was saying. Often, however, their warnings were ignored by the bulk of the corporate press…
By reading mainstream media critically and tuning into the alternative press, citizens can see that the notion that “everyone” was wrong about Iraq was—and is—just another deception.
