A couple of days ago, it went around the net that Harrison Ford had auctioned off the famous Han Solo jacket for a whopping $191,000. Most outlets carried that Ford was auctioning the piece of pop cultural memorabilia for charity—specifically, epilepsy research.
“IfOnly is proud of the amount of money raised to help FACES and NYU Langone further their efforts to find a cure for epilepsy and seizures,” IfOnly director of entertainment Sean O’Neill said. “Thanks to Lucasfilm and Mr. Ford we have one very happy ‘Star Wars’ collector with a smile on their face.”
Ford’s motivations were revealed a month previous, when he discussed his personal connection to epilepsy.
At the NYU Langone Medical Center’s Find a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (a.k.a “FACES”), the actor told Confidenti@l that 26-year-old, Georgia Ford, has the condition.
“She is joining me to thank FACES. I admire a lot of things about her. I admire her perseverance, her talent, her strength. She’s my hero. I love her,” Harrison Ford (photo inset) told us.
The famously private Ford was very clear about the power that his daughter Georgia’s epilepsy has had on him.
“When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating. You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.”
He went on to tell the Daily News that Georgia had very serious, and scary, epileptic seizures at different points in her life that went incorrectly diagnosed until about eight years ago. Her life, with the right diagnoses and the right medication, has been normalized in a way that Harrison Ford hopes further research will be able to provide for others suffering from similar health concerns.
