Help Progressives Win has been on hiatus for a month, but I haven’t given it up. I care too much about Down Ticket races across the nation — because that way lies a different sort of America.
One where there is a functioning Congress which dares to take up The People’s Business and shake up the oligarchs with their claws into our Republic. And then shake them off, and bring forth a global initiative on Climate Change, to ensure that the species homo sapiens sapiens survives the next millennium and beyond.
One where we get our Party in Order, and do the real hard work of electing a new set of candidates for Down Ticket races in our Statehouses and County and City governments, too. So that we CAN change the course of our nation.
Watch for future editions of Help Progressives Win on Wednesday or Thursday mornings, and now, on to today’s Special Edition, featuring Charles Gaba nee Brainwrap —
Today, I’d like to introduce you to Charles Gaba, candidate for the office of County Commissioner of Oakland County, Michigan, District 12.
Most of you know Charles Gaba as Brainwrap, the guy who made national news with his ACAsignups.net website and analysis of the rollout of the PPACA which started on Jan 1, 2014.
Charles is a Michigan native (born and raised) and it’s where he and his family live today.
Charles posted this comment on his Facebook page late Tuesday evening:
While I’ve gained some national attention in recent years for documenting the impact of the Affordable Care Act and other healthcare issues, and will continue to do so, I’ve also long wanted to help improve things in the local community.
My experiences working with past campaigns, including helping One Bloomfield United get the new Bloomfield Hills High School approved and funded in 2012, made me realize the importance and ability of our community to support sensible projects and policies for the common good.
To that end, on April 19th I quietly announced that I’ve decided to run for Oakland County Commissioner in the 12th District, which encompasses all of Birmingham, all of Bloomfield Hills and most of Bloomfield Township.
If elected, aside from the general County Commissioner duties such as establishing property tax rates, adopting ordinances, approval of the county budget and so forth, I hope to help promote:
--Increased use of renewable energy and green technology
--Repairing our roads, bridges & other infrastructure
--Bringing a real mass transit solution to Southeast Michigan
--Protecting our air, water and environment in general
--Good government, including increased data transparency
I’m aware of what a difficult challenge I face, but we live in unusual times.
I’ll be announcing more details in the near future, so please stay tuned!
--Charles
Like everyone running for office, Charles is going to need campaign donations and Volunteers to help him launch this campaign, plus continuing efforts to help him spread the word via social media:

Inside Michigan Politics pre-empted Charles’ announcement on Tuesday with this Tweet:
if you live in Michigan and in Oakland County, I urge you to support this great candidate who will be a diligent public servant and who will put the people of Oakland County first, every day.
Watch for his public announcement message to the Daily Kos community this Saturday!
Remember, Down Ticket races are the best way for Democratic Party members to get our nation back on track and to put an end to the pernicious behavior of Republicans who are occupying far too many seats in Congress, in Statehouses and in County and City government in most states.
You can also read about other progressive candidates at the Facebook page Help Progressives Win, started by Christy Matthews, another great 2016 progressive candidate (whom I featured in this Help Progressives Win story).
For those from SW Washington State:
I am running a current signature petition to put my name on the ballot here in Washington State for our July Primary. Help me save nearly $2,000 and download the petition page from my campaign website www.Angie4Congress.com and collect signatures of registered voters (from anywhere in Washington State). Instructions and mailing address to send them to are on the front page. We have a May 20 deadline to reach, so all help is very much appreciated.
Thank you for all your support the past ten months!
