Just a few weeks ago Chuck Grassley was calling his Supreme Court blockade a “gamble” with Donald Trump about to secure the GOP nomination. Now that Trump’s candidacy is inevitable, Grassley's decided he's not worried anymore—the Supreme Court will be just fine in Trump's hands. No. Really.
“Based upon the type of people he’d be looking for, I think I would expect the right type of people to be nominated by him to the Supreme Court,” Grassley said.
Grassley, who is chairman of the Senate committee that oversees judicial nominations, has refused to hold a hearing for the man President Barack Obama named as nominee following the unexpected death of conservative Justice Antonin Scalia. Grassley has called it a “lame duck” appointment and argues the next president should have the power to name Scalia’s replacement.
Well, hell, if the entire final year of a presidency can be called "lame duck," then sure, Donald Trump is fit to be president and pick the Supreme Court. Or maybe Grassley's willing to say absolutely anything to justify his unprecedented and outrageous blockade.
