While many Kansas Republicans are trying to avoid the question of whether or not they will support Donald Trump in the general election, Secretary of State Kobach has decided to run head first into the race, saying he feels vindicated that Donald Trump is now the standard bearer for the party.
Bryan Lowry, who writes for the Wichita Eagle, followed up with the Secretary of State about the issue now that Trump is the presumptive nominee.

“I feel somewhat vindicated that overwhelming numbers of Republicans across the country recognized him as the best person to carry the banner for Republican Party,” said Kobach, the only statewide official in Kansas to endorse Trump ahead of the Kansas Republican caucus, which was won by Cruz in March.
“On the immigration issue, there’s absolutely no question that Trump was the most conservative of all of the candidates who ran,” Kobach said.
Other state Republicans have had an uneasy time figuring out what to do with Trump. Writing for the Kansas City Star, Dave Helling points out that many Republicans are trying to figure out what happens next.

U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas, who is running for re-election, met with reporters in Lenexa. He said he’ll back Trump, largely because he opposes Clinton.
“He wasn’t my first choice,” Yoder said. “He’s got to focus on issues that matter to the American people.”
For Kris Kobach, who says he helped come up with the concept of Mexico paying for the wall, the vindication may be sweet — but it only hides the continued problems in his office.
Last month, I published that the voter information guides presented by the state of Kansas are structurally different in Spanish than in English. Now, almost a month later, the guides available at the website are still incorrect.
Despite promises on the behalf of the Secretary of State’s office, the exclusion of passports as an acceptable ID to register to vote has not been corrected — although English speakers clearly see the information in their document.
The document, which has been revised since earlier errors to update the mistaken number of days (presented as 15, corrected to 21) shows that the State of Kansas has still not made a serious effort to address this simple issue — the insertion of a few words — in order to make sure the documents provided to English readers are the same as those who read Spanish as a preference.
For Kobach’s office, though, today isn’t the day to think about dereliction of duty, instead, today is the day to feel vindicated — over a victory by Trump.
Kansas Open Records Requests made to the Secretary of State’s office on my behalf and The Pitch have yet to be honored.
