The FEC letter is creating a lot of excitement. It is easy to turn a PDF into an Excel © spreadsheet and do a few calculations. See above. Note that the total number of unique individuals who contributed excessively is less than or equal to 988. It could be “less than” if (for one example among several) “John Z*r**” is the same person as “John M Z*r**” (sorry for the redaction, but I do not like to use real names on the internet). Contributors with foreign addresses total less than or equal to 561 (same caveat), and refunds total 15 (ditto). Yup fifteen.
Edited: to point out that “refunds” means refunds sent to persons with no record of donation. This has been characterized in another diary as the Sanders campaign randomly giving away money. There are 15 (fifteen!) of those totaling less than $3k (see chart above). So you can see that I am clearly *not* endorsing that characterization. Many many more refunds have been sent to excessive and foreign contributors.
Edited: “Refunds” means refunds sent to people with no recorded corresponding donation. This was characterized in another diary as “[Bernie’s campaign giving away money for whatever reason]”. NB- total is less than ~$2700. Many many refunds have already been sent to people who did make (unwittingly? — note the mean) excessive contributions, or contributed with a foreign address.
