..that was the tweet sent out by Texas republican senator John Cornyn..
..until Cornyn scrubbed the tweet; more likely than not after realizing he blew the con — oops.
Mother Jones has this story to help fill in the picture of what is happening within the GOP:
Johnson applied to the Trump campaign to be a delegate. He was accepted on Monday. In order to be approved he had to sign this pledge sent to him by the campaign: "I, William Johnson, endorse Donald J. Trump for the office of President of the United States. I pledge to cast ALL of my ballots to elect Donald J. Trump on every round of balloting at the 2016 Republican National Convention so that we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" After he signed, the Trump campaign added his name to the list of 169 delegates it forwarded to the secretary of state.
Johnson leads the American Freedom Party, a group that
"exists to represent the political interests of White Americans"
and aims to preserve
"the customs and heritage of the European American people."
Surprising no one, republicans demonstrate how they uphold their much vaunted “principles”:
May 10, 2015:
Rachel Maddow points out that contrary to dramatic reports about the Republican Party being conflicted about the nomination of Donald Trump for the presidency, and so-called party leaders objecting to Trump's message and influence, Republican support for Trump, including from party leaders, remains robust.
So all the squawking from republican politicians amounts to just that. Squawking
Rachel Maddow transcript excerpts:
SEN. MARCO RUBIO (R), FLORIDA:
Well, I`ve signed a pledge that said I`d support the Republican nominee and I intend to continue to do that. I intend to live up to the pledge that we made.
JAKE TAPPER, CNN:
But it`s not just concerns that you`ve had about it. You once said that you didn`t think – that you had concerns about the fact – about the nuclear codes being in the hands of an erratic con man. That was what you said.
RUBIO:
So I`m not going to – here`s what I`m not going to do the next six months is take shots at him. I stand by the things that I said, but I`m not going to sit here now and become his chief critic over the next six months.
There’s more of that republican “conservative principles” on display.
Rachel sums up the GOP’s principled stand:
MADDOW:
I stand by my assessment that he is an erratic con man who should never be given access to the nuclear codes. And, I will also support him for president. That is how the Republican Party is taking their principled stand against Donald Trump.
I guess to be clear the principle at work here is, it`s better to give the nuclear launch codes to an erratic con man than it is to not vote Republican. Think about what they`re saying. You`re in a voting booth and some sort of terrorist came in and said, vote for a Democrat or I will give the nuclear launch codes to an erratic con man!
You would say, OK, give the nuclear launch codes to an erratic con man, that`s better than voting for a Democrat. That`s the principled stance that we`re getting from Republican leaders, including today Marco Rubio.
The last race on the Republican side will be June 7th when five states vote in the Republican primary, including the biggest one, California. Last night, the California secretary of state released list of delegates that have been formally assigned to each campaign.
The Donald Trump list of delegates made headlines this afternoon when “Mother Jones” was first to report the Trump named delegate slate, which was officially approved by the Trump campaign, published by the California secretary of state – the Trump delegate list includes this guy.
For months now the republican story has been that they reject (and even ‘refudiate’ — [SP & sp]) Trump completely. That story is bullshit. Has been from the beginning. The GOP is Trump in every way that is foul, reactionary, corrupt, xenophobic, pandering, elitist, bigoted, misogynist and racist. Always has been. To wit — former Mississippi governor Haley Barbour touting the segregationist WCC as the antidote to the KKK as recently as 2010. The republican establishment party bosses just can’t seem to abide a con man beating them at their own game... Yet that won’t prevent them from caving like a cheap tent — just not publicly until they figure out a narrative to blame someone else for their own cowardice:
”I’ll vote for Trump..if he’s the nominee..but I won’t endorse him..” — lol
More “principled” republicans from All In with Chris Hayes (video | May 10, 2016):
The former presidential candidates once had incredibly harsh words for the presumptive nominee. Today, they didn't seem to know what to say.
Trumps refusal (or inability) to stick to the standard republican dog-whistles used by republican politicians to hide their actual agenda exposed the GOP as the corporate shills they are including laying bare their segregationist roots.
Sometimes, where Trump breaks with the GOP it is to the lesser evil on a few topics: Iraq invasion and other issues — although Trump is as dishonest as they come, so it’s hard to pin down where he stands at any given moment — again, not unlike any typical republican politician/con man when it comes to programs they would never honestly admit to slashing solely to gift the already enormously wealthy elite a few more tax cuts

— watching republicans vehemently deny what they are and what they’ve wrought and will continue, needs constant exposure — imo — word is they’ll still mange to garner support from approx. 45% the electorate despite their foul agenda | be back after awhile — it’s time to turn in
