Washington Post story www.washingtonpost.com/… about various major unions unhappy with billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer setting up Super PAC for Dems.
A letter was sent to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka requesting him to cut ties with Steyer due to Steyer’s opposition to Keystone XL Pipeline and other environmental concerns. The letter came from the heads of multiple building trades organizations who believe that Steyer’s environmental stand hurts jobs.
Since the unions play (used to???) an important role in helping get Dems elected, this could create a major weakness in active support for GOTV efforts and other assistance to the Dems in 2016.
Who would even be able mediate this type of schism? How do you split the baby? Is it jobs vs. environment?
