Mary Lou Bruner is running for the East Texas Board of Education. She’s a special kind of American crazy. She has big-time opinions, completely unsupportable, fact-free and and she also has the ego and confidence of someone who thinks she should control the education of young people. The first part is laughable in that her ideas are so wildly off-base, they would make Trey Gowdy sweat. If you don’t remember Mary Lou, here are some of her theories:
Like the one about how the Democrats killed JFK because of something with socialists and Communists.
The one about climate change being some kind of attempt by Karl Marx to turn “free enterprise” into Communism.
And an oldy but a GOLDY! President Barack Obama is a secret homosexual prostitute, to pay for drugs.
I like to read the last one with a dry red wine.
That plan has worked well enough for Mary Lou Bruner, whose fact-free paranoia has been rewarded with a huge share of the vote in an East Texas State Board of Education race, 3,549 votes short of winning the seat outright. Bruner heads to a runoff against Lufkin ISD board president Keven Ellis this month, and history suggests it’ll be the most fired-up of the GOP base voters — generally seen as Bruner’s people — who turn out for a down-ballot runoff.
It seems as if many East Texas voters were drinking a ton of dry red wine … or were they?
East Texas education leaders told the Observer that coverage of Bruner’s Facebook polemics didn’t reach most East Texas voters before the March primary. In the district, Bruner was best known for her “back to basics” vision for education.
In the closing weeks of the runoff, though, it’s been a different story, with Bruner’s delusions about education getting her into trouble.
[My emphasis]
Unfortunately, as more information about how goddamn backwards and insane Mary Lou Bruner is got out, she lost one of her great political endorsements—Grassroots America—We The People (GAWTP).
Sadly, We Must Withdraw Endorsement in SBOE 9 Race
Grassroots America’s official news release withdrawing endorsement of Mary Lou Bruner.
GAWPT is East Texas answer to Obama taking over America.
Grassroots America works closely with statewide and national conservative policy groups and think tanks, and our executive director serves as an “issue coalition” partner with these organizations. In her capacity as the two-term chairman of the Texas Legislature’s TEA Party Caucus Advisory Committee (elected by her committee peers), Chairman of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s Grassroots Advisory Board, and a statewide leader in the Life, Liberty and Property Coalition, Grassroots America’s executive director JoAnn Fleming is on the frontlines of state policy development and governmental reforms.
Sadly, even the more extreme PACs in our political spectrum are now going to run away from crazy Mary Lou. But don’t feel sad, we will always have this theory on evolution and school shootings:
