No reasonable person can argue that Hillary Clinton is equal to Trump. Although Bernie still has a slim chance of winning, we have to keep it real and consider what to do if he doesn’t. This is a big tent party which is a home for anyone from Marxist to Third Way. If you have an idea that doesn’t involve giving more and more to the 1% or discriminating against minorities or creating more austerity, you have a home here. I did a series on Basic Income a while back, and people here were receptive to it. We are the Party of Ideas and the GOP is the Party of Privilege and Power.
Hillary was not my 5th or 6th choice in 2008, and she was not my choice this time around. But she has redeeming values that Donald Trump does not have. Including:
— Pushing for the Equal Rights Amendment;
— Moderate and Progressive judges in the mold of Breyer and Ginsburg;
— Continuity from the Obama administration;
— An inspiration to all young girls, showing them that they can dream big;
— Bernie Sanders as chair of the Senate Budget Committee;
— A willingness to listen to the base (example — TPP, Keystone XL, $15 minimum wage);
— A continuation of Bill Clinton and Barack Obama’s policies, which created a combined 34 million jobs;
— An end of deficits and a new era of surpluses;
— Getting guns out of the hands of criminals and keeping them in the hands of law abiding citizens;
— A proven track record of growth and prosperity.
On the other hand, here is what Donald Trump would entail:
— Austerity;
— Knocks on your door in the middle of the night by INS agents looking for “illegals;”
— Using nuclear weapons;
— Guns in the hands of criminals;
— Forced pregnancy as the law of the land;
— Women going to jail for having abortions along with doctors;
— Rampant hate crimes against Muslims and people who pass for such, like Bahais and Sikhs;
— Corporate judges who expand on Citizens United;
— Prices of common goods skyrocketing thanks to Donald Trump’s 45% tariff on Chinese goods;
— Oceans rising and flooding our coastal cities, creating an internal refugee problem that would dwarf the 11 million undocumented immigrants we have now.
Is this the kind of country we want to have, just because Hillary is not good enough for you? Think about it.
