Received this e-mail today from Russ Feingold’s (D. WI) U.S. Senate campaign:
Friend,
Right now, Governor Scott Walker's voter ID law is being challenged in federal court. (Yes, the same Scott Walker who somehow managed to blow $90,000 A DAY on his short-lived, failed bid for president just this past fall.)
We're seeing more and more of these discriminatory laws being rammed through Republican legislatures across the country, and the one we have here in Wisconsin is among the harshest. It restricted early voting hours, and changed the laws regarding absentee ballots, putting more obstacles in place to voting. And it disproportionately affects people of color and young people.
We should be making it easier for every eligible voter to cast their ballots, not harder. Add your name if you agree.
Republicans know what they're doing when they pass these laws -- you saw it when Republican Congressman Glenn Grothman said, and I quote, "Now we have photo ID, and I think photo ID is gonna make a little bit of a difference."
You can't make this stuff up, folks: They're not even trying to hide it anymore. Voter ID is fully intended to "make a difference" in elections -- a partisan difference in favor of Republicans.
Help us send a message: Add your name to take a stand against voter suppression.
It's up to us to make our voices heard, and show Republican legislators that we won't stand for this.
We're hopeful that the federal court will strike down this law here in Wisconsin, but we need you to help us make a stand -- there are so many of these laws all over the country that must be challenged as well.
They go against the very heart of what our democracy -- and our country -- stands for.
Thanks,
Josh Orton
